Pocket Hits $100M Run Rate and Expands Team Beyond Hardware

By Zero G Talent•

Eight months after rolling out its credit card-shaped voice recorder, Pocket reached an annualized revenue run rate of $100 million in August 2026, according to Business Insider. The company has sold more than 200,000 units of its physical recording device while expanding monthly revenues through software subscriptions.

The San Francisco-based startup emerged from Y Combinator's Winter 2026 batch under the corporate name Open Vision Engineering, Inc. Pocket previously raised an $11 million financing round in June 2026 led by Accel, with participation from Y Combinator and angel operators including Vercel chief executive Guillermo Rauch, ElevenLabs co-founder Mati Staniszewski, and Opendoor CEO Kaz Nejatian, according to TechCrunch.

With device sales growing at roughly 50% month-over-month, the company is scaling beyond its initial dozen employees to fill 16 open positions across product, software, hardware operations, and go-to-market teams.

Capturing Context in the Physical World

Pocket builds a slim puck that attaches to the back of a mobile phone and records conversations with the press of a physical button. The hardware offloads offline meeting notes and face-to-face discussions into organized summaries, action items, and follow-up drafts. The hardware puck retails between $129 and $199 with core transcription provided for free, while an advanced AI tier runs between $16.50 and $20 a month, or $200 to $250 annually.

Unlike software plugins for Google Meet or Zoom, Pocket targets conversations happening away from computer screens. Its primary customer segments include doctors, sales representatives, attorneys, and field operators who cannot easily look down at screens during client interactions. Direct-to-consumer sales and customer referrals account for the bulk of its growth, with 85% of volume coming from the United States and under 10% from third-party marketplaces like Amazon, according to Entrepreneur.

To bridge offline speech with corporate workflows, the company integrates with cloud platforms including OneDrive, Google Drive, Obsidian, Claude, and Cursor, and runs a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server so users can route conversational data into internal databases. The system holds SOC 2 and HIPAA compliance, encrypts data end-to-end, and does not train models on customer interactions.

Founder Backgrounds

Pocket was founded by Akshay Narisetti and Gabriel Dymowski. The two met at The Residency, an artificial intelligence hacker house in San Francisco.

Narisetti, who serves as chief executive officer, studied computer science at SRM Institute of Science and Technology before enrolling in a master's program in computer science at Georgia Institute of Technology. Prior to Pocket, he worked as a software engineer at BharatX and Questbook, developed open-source software during Google Summer of Code, and was a founding contributor to the open-source hardware initiative Omi.

Dymowski previously co-founded DoxyChain, an enterprise document infrastructure platform built on blockchain protocols. The founders initially built an application for meeting transcription, but pivoted to dedicated physical hardware after observing that doctors and sales professionals needed instant, single-tap capture without unlocking phones or navigating mobile applications.

Product Evolution and Expansion

Pocket operates in an increasingly contested ambient AI hardware ecosystem, sitting alongside device makers like Plaud and software note-taking applications including Granola, Otter, and Fireflies. In an interview with CIOL, Narisetti noted that basic speech-to-text will commoditize, arguing that Pocket's long-term defense rests on building persistent contextual memory across multiple conversations, people, and business workflows.

The company is also developing capabilities tailored to complex environments, including code-switching speech, mixed accents, and offline execution for frontline workers. Pocket has highlighted enterprise pilots with customers such as DoorDash, as well as plans to expand sales operations into international markets and physical retail channels.

Hiring Priorities Across San Francisco and Remote

Pocket lists 16 open positions across technical, operational, and commercial disciplines. The hiring plan splits between on-site engineering and leadership roles in San Francisco and distributed support or operations functions.

On the executive and product front, Pocket is recruiting a Head of Product ($220,000 to $300,000) and a Head of Subscriptions & Monetization ($220,000 to $260,000) to steer product architecture and recurring software revenues. Technical teams are also adding an on-site Engineering Generalist - Product Impact (Full Stack) paying $200,000 to $300,000, and a Research Engineer - Voice Intelligence within the same compensation band.

Commercial roles reflect Pocket's push into direct sales and business contracts. The company is hiring an on-site Founding Account Executive ($100,000 to $250,000) and a Founding Growth Marketer, B2B ($150,000 to $200,000). Remote openings include roles in hardware logistics and people operations, such as a Supply Chain Analyst and a Founding Recruiter.
