Journey Raises $8M Series A to Expand Proactive Workplace Mental Health Platform

By Zero G Talent•

Journey, a New York-based mental health platform founded in 2015, closed an $8 million Series A funding round led by Cambrian Growth Partners. The investment, reported by HRTech Series and MobiHealthNews, also included participation from ManchesterStory, Canaan Partners, J-Ventures, J-Impact, Life Science Angels, and HealthTech Capital.

Traditional Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) average a 3% utilization rate because they function primarily as crisis response systems. Journey provides a proactive alternative that reaches out to employees early to identify warning signs before mental health issues escalate. The company reports an employee engagement rate exceeding 30% across employer clients such as Universal Music Group, FactSet, Micron, BD, Regeneron, New Balance, and Georgetown University.

AI Therapist Matching and Platform Expansion

The Series A round brings Journey's total disclosed funding to $12.9 million. The company is using the new capital to scale its software, expand global clinical access, and grow employer partnerships.

In March 2024, Journey acquired Felt, a startup formerly known as Mine'd, as reported by TechCrunch. Felt built machine learning technology to analyze compatibility between individuals and therapists using factors such as communication styles and personal values. Journey integrated Felt's software into its back-end platform, pairing automated algorithms with human Masters-Level Clinicians to connect employees with compatible care providers.

Leadership

Journey was founded by CEO Stephen Sokoler. Sokoler holds a bachelor's degree in finance and international business from the NYU Stern School of Business. Before launching Journey, he founded Altrum Honors, a company focused on employee recognition programs.

Sokoler launched Journey to make mental wellness support structured and accessible. "The future of workplace mental health is proactive—meeting people where they are, before things escalate, and providing meaningful, human-centered support that people actually use," Sokoler told HRTech Series.
