REVER Expands Returns Platform Across Europe and Scales Engineering
Returning items bought online remains one of the costliest friction points in e-commerce. Retail return volumes climbed dramatically following pandemic shopping spikes, leaving online merchants navigating higher shipping expenses, inventory depreciation, and lost revenue. In response, Barcelona-based REVER is building software that merges reverse logistics, financial infrastructure, and machine learning to automate the entire return and refund lifecycle.
The startup, which took part in Y Combinator's S22 batch, recently raised an €8.5 million funding round led by Global Founders Capital and Oscar Pierre, alongside backing from Sequoia Capital, Alma Mundi Ventures, and Galdana Ventures. REVER is now actively expanding into multiple international territories while growing its technical and operational footprint.
Automating Reverse Logistics and Instant Refunds
REVER was founded in 2022 to fix the manual bottlenecks of reverse logistics—specifically getting returned goods back into retailer supply chains without saddling consumers with weeks-long refund delays.
The company’s core platform integrates into merchant checkout and order systems to automate return label creation, package tracking, and customer communications. Rather than waiting for items to arrive at a warehouse and undergo manual inspection before issuing store credit or initiating bank transfers, REVER finances instant cash refunds using a buy now, pay later-style arrangement. This fintech layer eliminates friction for consumers while insulating retailers from immediate processing friction.
On the backend, REVER provides analytics dashboards that track return volumes, customer behavior, and product defect patterns. To keep retail revenue from leaving the store, the system also incorporates recommendation tooling that suggests alternative products and sizes directly inside the return portal. The team is expanding these features into machine-learning driven recommendation engines trained on past order history and shopper preferences.
Founded by Logistics Operators
REVER was established by Oriol Hernandez i Fajula and Marius Montmany. Both founders previously worked at large logistics operators, where they dealt firsthand with the inefficiencies and freight expenses generated by consumer returns.
In an interview with TechCrunch, Montmany highlighted that REVER was designed from inception as an all-in-one product spanning software, logistics integrations, fintech financing, and customer service workflows. The business reached more than 130 retail customers within its first year and achieved positive unit economics by operating at the intersection of retail software and payment flows.
While competing against return portals like Loop Returns, Sendcloud, and broader commerce networks such as Shopify and Klarna, REVER focuses specifically on European and cross-border merchants seeking rapid settlement and localized returns handling.
Where REVER Is Investing Its Headcount
With a team of approximately 35 employees, REVER has opened 15 roles across its Barcelona headquarters and select remote positions, with openings clustering in three primary areas:
Core Engineering and Integrations
To support new retail platform integrations and high-volume order pipelines, the engineering team is hiring technical contributors. Openings include a Software Engineer and a Backend Engineer, both offering €40,000 to €70,000 in Barcelona. The team is also seeking a FDE (Forward Deployment Engineer) to embed with enterprise customers and implement technical workflows.
European Market Expansion
REVER is ramping up operations in several European target territories. Key openings include a Founding Market Operations Launcher (DACH) compensated at €35,000 to €45,000, as well as enterprise sales and development roles targeting the German, French, Italian, and Spanish markets. These roles focus on merchant onboarding, regional carrier connectivity, and partner acquisition.
Commercial and Account Management
To manage its existing merchant base and expand contract sizes, the commercial team is hiring across account management and business development functions. These include dedicated positions for large domestic accounts and cross-border commercial leads.
