Maury White is the company’s principal founder and served as president when Infinia was formed in June 1985 as a technology transfer spin-off from the University of Washington (UW).
He was appointed Chief Technology Officer in 2003. Mr. White’s 40-year career has been dedicated to the development and continuous improvement of free-piston Stirling machines.
His free-piston Stirling activities began in 1962 at North American Rockwell. He subsequently spent more than 20 years developing free-piston machines at McDonnell Douglas and the UW for a variety of applications, but primarily focused on a power source for a fully implantable artificial heart.
The artificial heart work initiated technology innovations such as flexure bearings integrated with clearance seals that eliminate all rubbing parts and have enabled unprecedented long-life, maintenance-free generators for a variety of applications. Mr. White holds 10 patents related to Stirling cycle machines and has published more than 50 papers in the field.
He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physics from Harvey Mudd College and the University of California Los Angeles, respectively.
