Elevate Expands USD Banking Infrastructure and Scales Engineering After Fast Path to Profitability
Elevate (formerly Bloom) launched its core financial platform in January 2024 and reached profitability before the end of that same year. Backed by Y Combinator (W22), Goodwater Capital, Visa, VentureSouq, and Global Founders Capital, the fintech company provides non-United States residents with United States-based USD accounts, local and dollar cards, and free remittance rails.
The company is scaling its technical team to expand integrations with international banking networks and roll out new financial products across multiple global markets.
US-Based Banking Rails for Global Remote Workers
Elevate builds fintech infrastructure designed to give non-US residents seamless access to the American financial system. Its primary consumer and business products allow freelancers, remote workers, and contractors in emerging markets to hold balances in USD, receive payments without typical cross-border friction, and spend via physical or virtual cards.
According to Techpoint Africa, the company secured $5 million in a Pre-Series A round to expand operations into South Africa and Turkey, while MENAbytes reported the capital was raised in debt and equity to support USD accounts for remote workers across emerging regions.
The engineering team manages an MVP stack centered on React Native, TypeScript, MobX, and Appium for mobile client applications. On the infrastructure side, services run on Java, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, and AWS. Current engineering priorities center on core systems problems:
- Building and hardening direct integrations with regional banking partners and international payment networks.
- Scaling transactional infrastructure to handle aggressive user onboarding across multiple jurisdictions.
- Real-time performance monitoring, automated system health alerting, and high-uptime ledger reliability.
- Automated fraud detection, transaction monitoring, and risk management systems.
Leadership Across Capital Markets, Risk, and AI
Elevate is led by founders with extensive backgrounds in institutional banking, software architecture, and venture investing:
- Ahmed Ismail, Co-Founder & CEO, spent more than 18 years across institutional banking at Bank of America, Credit Suisse, and Jefferies, where he served as regional CEO and regulatory head overseeing Middle East and Africa business. He has managed over $70 billion in M&A and capital markets deals. Ismail also co-founded digital asset platform HAYVN, leads FluidAI, and is a Fellow at Imperial College London's I-X initiative.
- Khalid Keenan, Founder, graduated in Computing from Imperial College London and brings over a decade of software engineering experience inside banking and financial services, with an emphasis on investment management and financial risk systems.
- Youcef Oudjidane, Founder, studied mathematics at the University of Nottingham and started his career guiding companies through US public listings before managing early-stage investments for the Dubai Government and co-founding venture firm BYLD.
Engineering and Deployment Roles Across the US and Europe
To manage its cross-border footprint and build out operational hubs, Elevate is hiring across engineering, operations, and deployment functions. The company currently lists open positions spanning San Francisco, New York, and Zürich.
Technical hiring targets engineers capable of managing distributed financial platforms. Elevate is hiring an onsite Founding Engineer in San Francisco to take ownership of product software systems, as well as a mid-level Founding Engineer based in Zürich or available remotely.
