Solo Expands Remote Engineering and Marketing Teams to Scale Debt Resolution

By Zero G Talent•

Legal technology startup Solo is expanding its headcount across engineering, product, and growth marketing as it targets the $35 billion debt resolution market. Founded in 2018 and headquartered in Provo, Utah, the Series A company has grown to 25 employees while building automated tools to help individuals respond to and settle debt lawsuits.

Solo operates a platform featuring two primary products: SoloSuit, which helps users generate legal responses to debt collection lawsuits, and SoloSettle, a tool that connects users directly with debt collectors to negotiate settlements. The company reports that over 70 million Americans enter debt collection annually, and its software has assisted users in responding to more than $1.9 billion in debt lawsuits. Solo was part of Y Combinator's W21 batch and has received venture backing from Kleiner Perkins, Y Combinator, and Expa.

Founder Backgrounds and Technical Architecture

Solo was co-founded by George Simons and CTO Scott Erickson. Simons earned a joint JD/MBA from Brigham Young University in 2020 with a focus on narrowing the legal justice gap for individuals facing debt litigation.

Erickson holds a Master of Science in Engineering in Computer Science from Princeton University and previously attended Oberlin College. Prior to Solo, Erickson served as a Technical Lead at Dropbox and co-founded the educational coding company CodeCombat. At Solo, the engineering organization relies on established infrastructure, utilizing Ruby on Rails and Amazon Web Services (AWS) products to scale document generation and settlement workflows.

Market Demand and Media Coverage

Coverage from regional and national media outlets has highlighted the company's focus on consumer legal access. Reporting by 12News detailed how Solo's services provide accessible legal document assistance to individuals who cannot afford conventional attorney fees during debt collection litigation.

Hiring Across Software, Marketing, and Operations

Solo is currently hiring for eight fully remote positions based in the United States, reflecting growth across its core technical and acquisition channels.

The engineering team is recruiting a Senior Software Engineer ($150,000 – $220,000) and a mid-level Software Engineer ($90,000 – $160,000) to build out its Rails and AWS infrastructure. On the product side, the company is adding a Product Manager ($90,000 – $210,000).
