Data security startup Strac is hiring across engineering and go-to-market roles to broaden its automated detection and redaction platform. Operating from Bellevue, Washington, the eight-person company has maintained an eight-person core while operating cash flow positive following a $3.5 million seed round backed by Y Combinator, FUSE, Liquid 2 Ventures, Wayfinder Ventures, and Rogue Capital, as reported by GeekWire.
Strac develops agentless data discovery, data security posture management (DSPM), and data leak prevention (DLP) software designed to discover, classify, and remediate sensitive customer and corporate data across SaaS, cloud platforms, generative AI applications, browsers, and endpoints. The product operates across more than 40 enterprise integrations, including Slack, Microsoft Office 365, Google Drive, Jira, Zendesk, Salesforce, AWS, Azure, and ChatGPT, as well as on-premises databases such as Microsoft SQL and SAP.
Agentless Protection Across Cloud and Generative AI
Strac's software identifies sensitive information, such as financial details, identification numbers, and contact credentials, then remediates exposures by alerting administrators, labeling files, masking characters, blocking transmissions, or redacting and deleting content. Enterprise customers using the system include Databricks, UiPath, thredUP, B Capital, and Crypto.com. Business tracker GetLatka estimated Strac's 2024 revenue at $1.7 million.
In a product demonstration video, Strac Jira DLP (Data Loss Prevention) & DSPM, founding engineer Peter showed how the software monitors text, attachments, and comments in Jira tickets to prevent accidental exposure of customer details. When sensitive data is submitted, the system automatically redacts the information, moves the original content into a secure Strac vault, and leaves a link accessible only to authorized personnel. The company notes that these automated controls help customers maintain compliance with HIPAA, SOC 2, and PCI standards.
The company is led by founder and CEO Aatish M, an alumnus of Y Combinator's W22 batch. Before launching Strac in 2021, Aatish spent 11 years as a Principal Engineer at Amazon, where he helped construct critical payments infrastructure, including payment secure zones on AWS that protected billions of payment cards, bank accounts, and transactions at scale.
Engineering Roles Across the US and India
Strac is currently recruiting for several engineering roles across North America and India to expand its coverage of cloud integrations and improve detection accuracy. The team builds microservices and data pipelines using JavaScript, Python, and Java on AWS infrastructure, alongside React front-ends.
The team is hiring a remote Senior Full Stack Software Engineer ($140,000 to $210,000) to build data-protection tools spanning React interfaces, backend services, and connections to new SaaS platforms and on-device agents. In Washington, an onsite Senior Software Engineer ($110,000 to $160,000) based in Bellevue, Seattle, or Redmond will work with core platform engineers to connect integrations in a scalable and resilient manner across SaaS, cloud environments, and generative AI tools.
International engineering growth centers on India, where Strac is seeking an onsite Software Engineer (India) (₹2,500,000 to ₹5,000,000) across Bengaluru, Pune, or Mumbai. The engineer will build full-stack technologies to scan and remediate data across SaaS, cloud platforms, and browsers using JavaScript, Python, and Java on AWS.
To bridge engineering and client deployments, Strac is also recruiting a remote Forward Deployed Engineer ($100,000 to $140,000). This engineer acts as the technical lead for each new deployment, taking enterprise proofs of concept to technical completion, managing onboarding, fine-tuning detection accuracy, and collaborating directly with the CEO and account executives.
Expanding Go-to-Market Teams
Alongside technical positions, Strac is building out an outbound enterprise sales engine. The company is hiring a remote Enterprise Account Executive ($120,000 to $160,000) to lead sales conversations directly with CISOs and IT leaders across mid-market and enterprise accounts, handling the full sales cycle from initial discovery and demos to pricing and contract close.
Supporting this effort is an opening for a remote Sales Development Representative (SDR) ($60,000 to $65,000). The SDR works alongside the CEO and founding team to experiment with ideal customer profiles, write cold outbound sequences, automate email outreach, prospect target lists, and draft phone scripts.
