RADAR raised $170 million in Series B funding co-led by Gideon Strategic Partners and Nimble Partners, bringing its valuation to $1 billion. As reported by PYMNTS.com, the New York-based retail technology company has deployed its inventory intelligence system across more than 1,400 physical stores, including locations for major retail brands such as American Eagle and Old Navy.
Founded in 2013, RADAR builds hardware and software designed to bring real-time visibility to physical retail environments. The company's platform combines radio-frequency identification (RFID) and computer vision technology to give physical stores continuous insight into inventory location and customer movement.
Real-Time Inventory Tracking for Physical Retail
RADAR addresses a persistent operational problem for brick-and-mortar stores: inventory inaccuracy. Traditional store management relies on periodic manual counts and batch processing, leaving retailers with incomplete data on product location and availability.
RADAR replaces manual scans with ceiling-mounted proprietary sensors that scan tagged items across sales floors, stockrooms, and fitting rooms every eight seconds. The system achieves 99 percent item-level location accuracy powered by artificial intelligence. When items are out of place or out of stock, the platform alerts store staff to restock, relocate, or recover products.
Through its RADAR+ analytics platform, retailers gain SKU-level visibility into consumer interactions. The platform tracks which products customers pick up, take into fitting rooms, or leave in unintended locations. In an interview with WWD, chief executive officer Spencer Hewett highlighted that knowing real-time product availability allows retailers to fulfill online orders directly from nearby stores and protect profit margins during supply chain disruptions.
Leadership and Company Origins
RADAR was founded by CEO Spencer Hewett and co-founder Ashish Singh. Hewett studied computer engineering at Washington University in St. Louis and previously founded Skip. He initially aimed to build autonomous checkout systems before pivoting RADAR toward item-level inventory tracking after identifying immediate retail demand for in-stock precision.
Singh, a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and co-founder of YourQuote, serves as an advisor to the company. RADAR has grown to approximately 120 employees and has raised a total of $139.7 million prior to its Series B round, with early backing from Y Combinator, Sound Ventures, Align Ventures, and NTT DOCOMO Ventures.
