About us:
Harbera builds AI software that helps healthcare clinics navigate working with insurance companies – from getting doctors approved to be in-network, to managing the rates insurers agree to pay and ensuring that payments match those rates.
Approximately $1 trillion, or roughly 20% to 25% of healthcare spending, is spent annually on administrative services in the US. A fair part of that burden comes from health care providers navigating the maze of constantly changing requirements from 900+ insurance companies.
Harbera supports more than 1,900 clinics across 45 states today and is growing rapidly. We’re a small but mighty team with big ambitions, already at mid-six figure ARR. We’re hiring a founding engineer to serve thousands more clinics and reach a Series A. We work in-person from our Tribeca office in NYC and travel regularly to conferences and customers across the country.
The founders are Harvard computer science grads who worked at Stripe, Bridgewater, Meta, and VC-backed healthcare startups. Harbera’s investors include Y Combinator, Wayfinder Ventures, and Peak XV (formerly Sequoia India & SEA), among others.
About the role:
We’re hiring a founding product engineer to help us shape Harbera’s future. You’ll work closely with the founders, Sophia and Veronica, to understand the problems our customers face and build software to solve them. We’re looking for someone as comfortable owning a customer relationship as they are independently designing and building new features.
What you will do:
- Own customer relationships. You’ll be the day-to-day point of contact for a portion of our wonderful customers, managing their Harbera journey from demo through implementation, deployment and everything that comes after.
- Design and build products. You’ll design and implement new features based on your conversations with customers, taking ideas from “this feature would really help my clinic” to something they can use.
- Help shape Harbera’s future. You’ll work directly with the founders to think through Harbera’s longer-term strategy, whether that is exploring new customer segments or deciding which products to build next.
Desired skills:
- Strong engineering fundamentals. You have experience building software, can reason through unfamiliar systems, and know how to investigate problems when the cause is unclear. Our stack is a TypeScript monorepo with an Express/Supabase backend and a React + Vite frontend, but you don’t need prior experience with these specific technologies.
- Fluency building with LLMs. You use AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, Devin) as a part of your daily workflow and have a strong sense of where LLMs are useful and where they are unreliable.
- Strong communicator with genuine energy for talking to customers. Our customers are at the heart of what we do. You care about getting to know them, understanding their problems and priorities, and following through with consideration and empathy.
- High agency. You can drive a project from ambiguous problem to shipped solution, and you're willing to do the unglamorous work.
- Curiosity, practicality, and a collaborative spirit. We have ambitious goals and work hard, but we also enjoy the little moments in the day-to-day. We want you to enjoy the journey with us.
What you'll enjoy:
- Lunch every day, on us. We eat together as a team, we laugh, catch up and decompress.
- Early team equity. Meaningful ownership in a revenue-generating, fast-growing company.
- Direct partnership with the founders. You'll be fundamental to helping us define Harbera’s path.
- Real ownership. You'll own customer relationships, ship features that go live to thousands of clinics nationwide, and see the impact of your work the same week.
- A team that has fun working together. Tribeca office, in-person, work hard but have fun doing it.
- Compensation. Competitive salary ($115k-$200k depending on experience) and equity, plus comprehensive medical, vision and dental benefits.
- The best AI tools available. Cursor, Devin, Claude Code, Codex, and whatever else makes you faster – we'll cover it.
Requirements:
- Degree in computer science, engineering, applied math or able to demonstrate equivalent ability through projects and work
- Able to work in-person in our Tribeca NYC office. Our team typically works 5-days a week in-person, 60-hours per week, starting at 9am
- Authorized to work in the United States
