We are stage agnostic. We invest in seed to venture to growth-stage technology companies, across AI, bio + healthcare, consumer, crypto, enterprise, fintech, games, and companies building toward American dynamism. a16z has $100B+ under management across multiple funds.
We’ve established a team that is defined by respect for the entrepreneur and the company-building process; we know what it’s like to be in the founder’s shoes. We’ve invested in companies like Anduril, Airbnb, Coinbase, Cursor, Databricks, Deel, Figma, GitHub, Roblox, SpaceX, and Stripe. Our team is at the forefront of new technology, helping founders and their companies impact and change the world.
The Role
The Global Partnerships team is dedicated to crafting an outstanding client experience for our trusted Limited Partners (“LPs”). The Global Partnerships Data Engineer owns and advances critical data infrastructure, systems, and automation that support the global partnerships activities of Andreessen Horowitz. This role operates with significant independence, leads complex cross-functional initiatives, and serves as a technical and strategic thought partner across Global Partnerships and adjacent teams. We’re looking for a data leader who can translate ambiguous business needs into scalable systems, reliable pipelines, and practical insights.
We are open to candidates based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
To join our team, you should be excited to:
Own and advance the Global Partnerships data ecosystem
- Lead ownership of critical systems, including the Global Partnerships core datasets and data pipelines. Serve as a technical and strategic thought partner to Global Partnerships and adjacent teams on data practices, automation, and scalable process design
- Design and maintain scalable data infrastructure and reliable pipelines that connect Global Partnerships systems and reduce manual work and error rates
- Uphold the highest standards of data precision and monitor and rectify discrepancies across different platforms
- Evaluate and implement tools and integrations to improve visibility, connectivity, and decision-making
Champion AI adoption across Global Partnerships
- Identify, pilot, and scale AI tools and agentic workflows that remove manual work and give the team leverage, then drive team-wide adoption through training, documentation, and change management
- Lead automation, process development, and operational scale. Enhance processes through automation to achieve data accuracy, reliability, and speed
- Act as the team's AI thought partner, staying current on emerging tools and translating them into concrete, high-leverage improvements to LP-facing and internal processes
Leverage data to enable practical insights on our portfolio and the industry
- Build visualizations and quantitative analyses that provide key insights on fund and investment performance including projected exit scenarios, liquidity and follow-on decisions
- Develop strong fluency with the firm’s portfolio company information database and be able to manipulate and analyze data from the system to draw insights
- Refine and calibrate portfolio performance analyses to stay current and relevant
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience. Preferable past experience includes but is not limited to, data analytics or data engineering
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, Finance, Accounting, or a technical field preferred but not required
- Demonstrate a critical eye and keen attention to detail for written prose and charts, tables and spreadsheets and the ability to stay on top of changing data/facts across multiple documents with ease
- Strong writing skills: The ability to communicate effectively through the written word is a critical skill
- Demonstrated experience building and maintaining data workflows, automations, or integrations using tools such as Python, Javascript, or a comparable programming language
- Proven ability to lead ambiguous, cross-functional projects with substantial autonomy and influence stakeholders across technical and business teams
- Experience owning or administering complex data pipelines or another critical business system, with a focus on data completeness, governance, and integration
- Low ego, high empathy, and the capacity to collaborate effectively with diverse teams
Ideal Candidate
- You have a sense of urgency and value the courtesy of professional responsiveness (this is super important as speed is a form of client service)
- You are able to adapt on the fly and handle unforeseen developments with ease. You are also able to do this without compromising attention to detail and quality
- You are a “measure twice, cut once” type of person – you are comfortable and have a preference for asking more questions upfront to avoid an oversight down the road
- You strive to be an enabler who gives the team maximum leverage - there is no job too big, no job too small
- You do what you say you are going to do, when you say you are going to do it
- You continually search for new ideas and means of improvement
- You are a dedicated team player that is willing to wear multiple hats
- Most importantly, you take your work seriously but not yourself too seriously
- You anticipate business needs, take ownership without waiting to be asked, and design solutions for scale
- You can break down complex processes, identify high-leverage improvements, and guide teams through change
- You are a trusted partner and emerging leader whom peers consult on data practices, systems, and efficiency
The anticipated salary range for this role is between $269,000 - $314,000, actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.
