Virgin Galactic is seeking a talented and motivated Tool Control Tech to be a part of our Flight Maintenance team to support our mission. As a Tool Control Tech, you will be assisting the team in maintaining, repairing, inspecting, issuing and receiving tools to all departments. You are a key player in our goal of starting the world’s first space line and opening space to all.
Work Schedule: 4/10 Onsite Thursday through Sunday Day Shift (6:00am – 4:30pm)
Work Location & Temporary Assignment requirements:
We are hiring this role in Las Cruces (Truth or Consequences), NM on a full-time basis, however, for the first 3-6 months of employment, you will be required to be based in Mesa, AZ on a temporary assignment at our Spaceship Factory supporting our manufacturing team building Spaceships. During your temporary assignment, Virgin Galactic will pay for all living and travel expenses. At the end of your assignment, you will go back to your full-time location to maintain and operate our vehicles during flight operations in Las Cruces (Truth or Consequences), NM.
Relocation assistance available to move to Las Cruces, NM area.
Responsibilities
- Issues tools and equipment to teams and maintains records of tools and equipment issued.
- Ensures all tools are kept clean, organized and inventoried.
- Makes certain that policy and procedures are always followed.
- Identifies and reports broken or worn tools as required.
- Marks and identifies tools and equipment, using identification tag, stamp, or electric marking tool.
- Confirms that proper preventative maintenance and repairs have been made, cleans and rebuilds tools, replacing components that frequently wear out.
- Always maintains a clean and well-organized work area, free of dirt, clutter, and debris where both gear and workspace are at a “show room” standard.
You may be asked to perform other related duties and projects as business needs require at direction of management.
Required Skills and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years relevant experience in the aviation tool control field.
- Must have or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record that will pass the criteria set by our insurance carrier for on-the-job coverage.
- Strong general knowledge of hand tools and their functions.
- Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing with all levels of management.
- Displays sound judgment, with the ability to make accurate and timely decisions..
- Must possess strong motivational, organizational, interpersonal and computer skills.
- Willing to travel and be on-call.
- Ability to understand and adhere to Virgin Galactic (VG) policies and procedures.
- Proactive, strategic and detail-oriented approaches with a strong commitment to safety, quality, efficiency and effectiveness.
- Ability to communicate effectively in a culturally sensitive manner with both individuals and groups.
- Strong safety forward thinking, practice good housekeeping, with strong customer service skills..
- Familiar with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Seeks out diverse perspectives and helps one another win.
- Holds themselves accountable for assigned work product.
Physical and/or Additional Requirements
- Work all shifts and available for overtime as well as weekends when needed.
- Travel 25% or more of the time.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position – 8 hours minimum.
- Able to maneuver in tight spaces through positioning self by stooping, bending, crawling – 3 hours minimum.
- Physically able to handle items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds (unassisted).

The annual U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $53,040.00–$72,665.00. The base pay actually offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, and experience and take into account internal equity. Other forms of pay (e.g., bonus or long term incentive) may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
