Virgin Galactic is seeking a talented and motivated Technical Trainer to be a part of our team to support our mission. The Technical Trainer will be responsible for delivering technical training and developing instructional programs that support the maintenance and operation of the spaceline’s aerospace vehicles. This position combines real-world maintenance expertise with instructional leadership to ensure technicians are trained to the highest standards of safety, compliance, and technical excellence. The instructor will leverage hands-on experience with aircraft and spaceflight systems to develop curriculum, provide classroom and practical instruction, and mentor maintenance personnel in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements. Support the company strategy by holding ourselves and one another accountable for getting the work done.
Responsibilities
- Delivers classroom and hands-on instruction in airframe and powerplant maintenance practices.
- Supports development and continuous improvement of training programs using direct operational knowledge from aircraft and maintenance activities.
- Translates real-world maintenance experience into engaging instructional materials and demonstrations of varying scope and complexity.
- Ensures all training aligns with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, safety standards, and company procedures.
- Evaluates student performance through practical assessments, written tests, and hands-on demonstrations.
- Mentors and coachs technicians in developing safe, disciplined maintenance habits.
- Maintains training equipment, instructional aids, and laboratory environments as to keep current and consistent.
- Consults with leadership on training requirements, qualification standards, and training plans for vehicles and programs.
- Collaborates with leadership and subject matter experts to ensure training reflects current vehicle configurations and procedures.
- Supports communication channels to ensure staff members have knowledge of training resources.
- Manages timeline of deliverables across multiple projects to ensure requirements are met and evaluation, application, and measurement efforts are completed.
- Practices and promotes safety behavior and Foreign Object Debris (FOD) awareness/prevention; adhere to regulatory protocols and rules.
- Advocates a strong safety culture and attention to detail across all training activities.
You may be asked to perform other related duties and projects as business needs require at direction of management.
Education & Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or higher in aviation maintenance, aerospace technology, or related field preferred and /or combination of education and work experience is required.
Required Licenses & Certifications
- FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate.
- Must have a valid passport and be able to obtain a driver’s license.
- Must be able to obtain an Area of Operation (AOA) badge.
Experience
- Experience providing facilitation support for instructor-led programs, blended learning, and team effectiveness workshops.
- Previous technical training, instructor, or mentoring experience in aviation or aerospace.
- Experience with narrow-body aircraft and/or business jets.
- Experience with composite aircraft structures (commercial or military aerospace applications).
- Experience performing aircraft inspection, troubleshooting, and repair.
