Acoustics Engineering Manager

The Acoustics Engineering Manager will manage and coordinate all underwater acoustics engineering activities and work packages in support of the various business unit programs and projects within the Underwater Systems business in Thales Australia.


KEY OUTCOMES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Acoustics Engineering Manager, you are responsible for ensuring:

  • Ensuring that all aspects of the Acoustics Engineering discipline are controlled and stable along all lifecycle phases of bids, projects and R&D activities,
  • Acting as the Acoustics Engineering Technical Authority for the Underwater Systems business line within Thales Australia to approve engineering investigations, detailed design packages,
  • Ensuring all Work Packages and activities undertaken by the Acoustics Engineering Team meet the requirements of the UWS Business Unit regarding budget, schedule, technical requirements and quality.
  • Preparation of agreed costed work packages in response to UWS Business Unit requests for Acoustics Engineering support to bids, projects and R&D activities as required.
  • Requirements analysis and technical maintenance documentation for nominated Acoustic-related Systems.
  • Ensuring the preparation of all relevant design data pack documentation including specifications, compliance matrices, design calculations, analysis reports, drawings, test plans, test reports and BOMs for design reviews are undertaken in accordance with company procedures and templates as appropriate.
  • Organising and conducting Design Reviews and Readiness Reviews when appropriate in accordance with company procedures.
  • Deploying the adequate Practices and Tools tailored to reach the required maturity according to Project/Product delivery challenges
  • Contributing on Bids/Products and Projects peer reviews to reduce technical/engineering risks and increase confidence to deliver
  • Promoting the Acoustics Engineering team skills and capabilities to the UWS Business Units to ensure the Projects engage the most appropriate skills to solve their Acoustics Engineering problems
  • Maintaining flexibility within the team to ensure fast developing urgent technical issues raised by the Business Units can be addressed quickly, efficiently and competently

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
To be successful in your role, you will have demonstrated and/or acquired the following knowledge and experience:

  • An Underwater Acoustics-related Engineering Degree or Mechanical Engineering Degree
  • Able to meet the requirements for membership to Engineers Australia
  • You have knowledge and experience with Piezo-electric ceramic materials and substantial knowledge of Acoustics Engineering in the underwater domain
  • Knowledge of the Engineering Design process and understanding of the Systems Engineering Design methodology
  • At least 8 years post-graduate design experience with at least 3 years as a lead engineer, providing technical leadership in the engineering design and test lifecycle
  • Previous experience managing and leading teams as well as stakeholder management
  • Planning, preparation, execution and reporting of the engineering design including preparation of all supporting documentation for design reviews.
  • You are familiar with technology and associated tools, methods and processes such as:
  • Design: DS Catia, DS Solidworks, DS Smarteam, PTC Creo, PTC PDMLink, Siemens, NX, Autodesk Autocad, CAD Model, Drawings, Bill of Materials, Data Management
  • Simulation: Ansys Mechanical, DS Abaqus, DS Dymola, MSC Nastran, Structural analysis (static, modal analysis, shocks, vibrations), Mechanical tests correlation, Design optimization, Strength analysis
  • Environmental Testing: Shock and vibration tests, Qualification procedure
