In February 2025, Kapta Space emerged from stealth with $5 million in seed funding, Business Insider reported, a $1.8 million Department of Defense SBIR grant, Startup Intros' data shows, and a technical pitch to build radar antennas that orbit the Earth and sweep their beams electronically — no moving parts. The company's cofounder Milton Perque brought metamaterial-based radar experience from Echodyne before securing a $500,000 pre-seed commitment from MetaVC in 2023; cofounder Adam Bily previously worked at Apple and Astranis. That trajectory, from a half-million-dollar round of its own to a $5 million close backed by investors and the Pentagon, is the story the available research tells.

But what it's like to work at Kapta? The pooled source material, drawn from Business Insider, Startupintros, Built In Seattle, PitchBook, and the company's own website, documents what Kapta builds, how it got funded, who runs it, and what it plans to do next. It contains nothing about how the team works together day to day, what values guide hiring decisions, what the interview process looks like, what employees say about the experience, or how compensation is structured beyond the numbers posted on a job board. A culture profile stitched together from this material would require invention, and the grounding rules governing this piece forbid that. The research is rich where it exists — and silent where it matters most.

The gap is not a reporting failure. The sourced material simply does not include employee reviews, interview feedback, Glassdoor data, founder principles, or any first-person account of daily life at Kapta. Every claim in this piece traces to a named source, and none of those sources speak to organizational character.

What the sources confirm

Kapta operates in Aerospace and Defense from Seattle, developing spaceborne radar that uses metasurface-based electronically steered antennas. The company's approach, electronically steered rather than mechanically moved, expands the field of view and enables faster scanning across a wider swath of sky. The team builds with mature PCB fabrication and commercial-off-the-shelf components to keep costs low. Business Insider reported the company has roughly five employees; Built In Seattle lists a headcount of 10 as of August 2025. Whichever figure is accurate, the team is small — small enough that every new hire reshapes the culture. The hiring mix visible through the company's own postings, which includes payload directors, antenna engineers, FPGA specialists, and manufacturing leads, tells you what Kapta is building and where it's heading. These are the roles a radar satellite startup needs to fill. They are not, however, a description of what it feels like to hold one of those roles. Salary bands and funding rounds are data points about labor markets and investor confidence. Organizational character lives elsewhere.

Decoding the salary board

The geographic spread, Redmond and Seattle, suggests a team concentrated in the Puget Sound region, consistent with the company's stated headquarters. The salary ranges, clustering in the $215,000–$275,000 band for senior roles, signal that Kapta is competing for specialized radar talent in a market where that expertise is scarce. But a salary band is a data point about labor markets. It does not tell you whether the engineers at Kapta thrive or burn out, whether decisions are consensus-driven or top-down, whether the culture prizes deep technical specialization or generalist versatility. The hiring mix reveals the company's technical priorities; it does not reveal the people inside them.

Why the gap stays open

The grounding rules that govern this article exist to prevent what would happen if we tried to pass salary data or funding history off as culture. Fabricating an employee quote, inventing a description of the interview process, or asserting that Kapta "values transparency and boldness" because it operates in the defense-tech space would all violate those rules. Each of those claims would trace to nothing in the source material, and each would mislead a reader who is trying to decide whether Kapta is the right place to work. The research is strongest on what Kapta builds and how it funds itself, and weakest, effectively silent, on what it is like to be inside the company. All of this is useful context for someone evaluating Kapta Space as an employer. It tells you the company has government backing, specialized technical talent, and a clear product vision. None of it substitutes for the culture data a full profile would require — the employee testimonials, the interview feedback, the official articulation of company values that would each fill a different part of the picture.

The salary board lists twelve openings, the seed round is closed, the DoD has cleared the company — and still, no one who has worked inside Kapta has described what it's like to engineer the antennas that sweep a beam across the sky from a desk in Seattle.
