At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

Job Description

Blue Origin is seeking a Senior Production Control Specialist to serve as the Production Control SME across Blue Thrusters manufacturing — spanning valves, igniters, thrust chambers, and final assembly. This person will own the flow of material and information through the production system, ensuring every part is where it needs to be, when it needs to be there, and that nothing sits idle without a reason.

This is not just a scheduling role. This is a production control leadership position responsible for the speed and discipline with which material moves through our factory. You will set the standard for how constraints are identified, how priorities are communicated, and how the team thinks about flow. You will build the production control capability of the entire organization — raising the floor for every specialist on the team.

Responsibilities:

A shift  Monday - Friday 7am-3:30pm

Production Control Leadership

  • Serve as the Production Control SME across Blue Thrusters value streams, owning material flow strategy from raw stock through finished goods across valves, igniters, thrust chambers, and final assembly
  • Establish and enforce production control best practices across all value streams; mentor and guide Production Control Specialists at all levels to raise the technical floor of the entire organization
  • Drive a culture of velocity, accountability, and constraint-based thinking — challenge the team to eliminate material stagnation at its root, not just expedite around it
  • Represent Production Control in high-visibility program forums, production readiness reviews, and leadership readouts
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex material flow problems — untangle multi-program conflicts, stranded inventory, and schedule breaks with speed and clarity

Material Flow & Velocity Management

  • Own the controlled flow of materials and services across the production system
  • Monitor job velocity through the production line and partner with Production leadership to ensure work completes on time to schedule; when it doesn't, you surface the constraint and drive resolution — not just report it
  • Implement and continuously refine material stocking strategies on production lines; control floor stock levels with discipline and data
  • Monitor the velocity of MRB disposition and stranded material, idle inventory is visible waste and you treat it that way
  • Schedule and expedite the movement of parts via move orders, stock transfers, and shipping requests; coordinate cross-functionally with warehouse, inspection, quality, operations, purchasing, engineering, logistics, and program teams

ERP / MRP Mastery & System Ownership

  • Execute shop order release and closure in the MRP system; reconcile parts with precision and consistency
  • Prepare work orders based on the master production schedule, shop load, and inventory requirements
  • Enter material transactions in the ERP system with accuracy
  • Process scrap and obsolete inventory from WIP locations; manage cycle count preparation, execution, and reconciliation
  • Deeply understand backflush processes and their downstream impacts on inventory accuracy
  • Define system requirements for manufacturing execution software and partner with development teams to iterate and introduce new functionality

Constraint Identification & Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Provide detailed, real-time status of work in progress, material availability, and constraints to schedule
  • Work cross-functionally to expedite material shortages with procurement, receiving, quality, and other production areas
  • Coordinate interdepartmental activity to resolve part discrepancies, material gaps, and schedule conflicts before they cascade
  • Prepare reports that surface shortages, damage, and flow disruptions

AI & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and deploy AI-assisted tools including predictive analytics, process optimization, and KPI visual management systems that give the team real-time visibility into production health
  • Leverage AI productivity tools to accelerate operations, enhance visual management, and document workflows across the manufacturing team
  • Build the team's capability and comfort with AI-enabled workflows — this person leads by example
  • Apply continuous improvement methodology (Lean, Six Sigma, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen) as daily operating discipline — you see waste, you quantify it, and you eliminate it

Minimum Qualifications

  • 7+ years of production planning, scheduling, and material control experience in a manufacturing or production environment
  • Direct, hands-on experience with MRP/ERP systems in a production environment
  • Demonstrated experience managing material flow across multiple concurrent production programs with competing priorities
  • Proven ability to surface constraints early, drive cross-functional resolution, and keep production moving
  • Strong demonstrated skill utilizing AI tools to optimize workflows
  • Deep understanding of inventory control disciplines: cycle counting, backflush, WIP reconciliation, scrap disposition
  • Experience implementing or significantly improving material stocking strategies and floor stock controls
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and elevate the capability of other production control specialists
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrates understanding and ability to apply continuous improvement tools: Lean, Six Sigma, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree
  • Experience in aerospace or propulsion hardware manufacturing environments
  • Can read, write, and run SQL
  • Experience defining system requirements for manufacturing execution platforms and partnering with development teams to build new functionality
  • Experience developing or deploying AI-assisted tools (predictive analytics, KPI dashboards, visual management automation)
  • Experience at a high-velocity manufacturer where speed, flow discipline, and elimination of waste are cultural norms
  • Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher)
  • Familiarity with PLM systems (Windchill, Teamcenter, or equivalent)
  • Flexible to work varied shifts, overtime, and weekends on occasion
