Andrey Fursenko

Born in 1949 in Leningrad. In 1971, graduated from the Leningrad State University with a degree in Mathematics and Mechanics. Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. From 1971 to 1991, worked at the Ioffe Physical and Technical Institute (served as Deputy Director in Charge of Scientific Work). From 1991, worked as General Director of the Regional Foundation for Scientific and Technological Development in Saint-Petersburg. In November 2001, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Industry, Science and Technology of the Russian Federation. Mr. Fursenko was in charge of innovative activities, intellectual property, and commercialisation of research. From July 2002, served as First Deputy Minister of Industry, Science and Technology of the Russian Federation. On November 01, 2003, he was appointed Acting Minister of Industry, Science and Technology of the Russian Federation. He left the post of Minister of Industry, Science and Technology of the Russian Federation after he was appointed to the position of the Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation on September 09, 2004. On May 07, 2004, the Russian Government, in accordance with Article 116 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, resigned before the newly elected Russian President. On May 20, 2004, by the Decree of the President of Russia, Mr. Fursenko was reappointed to the position of Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. On October 21, 2005, he joined the Council for Implementation of Priority National Projects under the President of the Russian Federation On January 24, 2006, he was appointed Head of the “Obrazovanie” interdepartmental working group for national projects at the Council for Implementation of Priority National Projects under the President of the Russian Federation On September 07, 2007, he was appointed as the Head of the Supervisory Board of the Russian Corporation of Nanotechnologies. On September 12, 2007, the Russian Government resigned. On September 24, 2007, Mr. Fursenko was re-appointed Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. On May 07, 2008, Viktor Zubkov signed a decree on the resignation of the Government of Russian Federation before the elected president of Russia. On May 12, 2008 Mr. Fursenko was re-appointed Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.
