This position requires an active U.S. Government security clearance at the TS/SCI level.
We are seeking a Senior PostgreSQL Engineer to support the architecture, optimization, and operational support of PostgreSQL databases supporting a large-scale U.S. Government big data analytics platform. This role ensures high availability, performance, scalability, and security of mission-critical database environments while collaborating with software engineers, data engineers, DevSecOps teams, and system administrators to deliver reliable data services in a secure, cloud-enabled environment.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Design, deploy, administer, and maintain PostgreSQL database environments supporting mission-critical applications.
- Optimize database performance through query tuning, indexing strategies, partitioning, and capacity planning.
- Implement and maintain high availability, replication, backup, disaster recovery, and database monitoring solutions.
- Develop and maintain database automation using scripting and Infrastructure as Code tools.
- Collaborate with application, data engineering, and DevSecOps teams to ensure database deployments support operational tools
Minimum Qualifications:
- US citizenship and an active TS/SCI clearance is mandatory for this position and required for consideration. Must be willing to obtain a CI Poly.
- 14+ years of relevant professional technical experience, including database, infrastructure, systems, software, data engineering, or related disciplines.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 6 years of experience administering and engineering PostgreSQL database environments.
- Strong experience across PostgreSQL performance tuning, backup and recovery, replication, and high-availability architectures.
- Experience supporting Linux-based production environments and automating database administration using scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or comparable scripting and automation technologies.
- Experience supporting PostgreSQL in cloud, hybrid, containerized, or comparable enterprise production environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting large-scale big data analytics, data lake, or enterprise data platform environments.
- Experience implementing database security best practices, access controls, encryption, and auditing.
- Experience with PostgreSQL extensions such as PostGIS, TimescaleDB, or pg_partman.
- Experience with DevSecOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes, Docker, Ansible, Terraform, or similar automation technologies.
- Familiarity supporting systems operating under NIST RMF, FedRAMP, DoD STIGs, or other federal cybersecurity compliance frameworks.
- PostgreSQL, cloud platform, Linux, or database administration certifications are highly desirable.
- Familiarity with Esri Enterprise and Postgres usage for SDE.

Candidates who meet the minimum requirements for the role should not expect to receive compensation at the top of the range. The listed range reflects the expected pay for this position, and final offers will be determined based on each candidate’s experience, expertise, and alignment with the role.
● The base pay for this position within the Washington, DC metropolitan area is: $120,000.00 - $160,000.00 - $176,000.00 annually.
For all other states, we use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop market-driven ranges for our roles, and as such, each location where we hire may have a different range.
