Role
The Engineering Technician, Operations will support lab- and pilot-scale processing of advanced batteries and battery cells. This role focuses on material preparation, conversion, lamination, and prototyping operations using both hand and semi-automated equipment. Technicians will perform unit operations such as stamping, laser, or plotter cutting, lamination, electrolyte handling, quality, metrology, and electrical testing while also supporting clean and dry room operations.
This is a hands-on role with opportunities to grow into shift leadership or supervisory positions as the lab scales into continuous roll-to-roll operations.
Responsibilities
Operate and maintain laboratory materials conversion equipment (cutters/slitters, coaters, laminators)
Prepare materials for prototyping, including laminating and adhesion processes.
Support dry-room operations, including handling of solvents and electrolyte filling.
Perform quality checks and record process data in logs and software systems.
Assist with equipment setup, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration.
Safely handle chemicals, follow standard operating procedures, and maintain compliance with safety and environmental protocols.
Maintain prototyping environment in conformance with 5S and other manufacturing best practices according to written procedures
Collaborate with engineers and scientists to provide feedback on process performance and sample quality.
Contribute to continuous improvement in conversion workflows and laboratory operations.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in a technical field preferred.
Hands-on experience with materials processing, conversion, or lamination equipment (e.g., printing, adhesives, composites, film, or other industries using roll to roll manufacturing flows)
Experience in battery cell/pack prototyping is a plus but not required.
Ability to work in a dry-room environment and handle solvents/electrolytes safely.
Basic data entry and documentation skills; familiarity with software tools for data logging is a plus.
Mechanical aptitude with ability to support equipment setup and maintenance.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
Effective communication and ability to work collaboratively across teams.
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit, stand, and perform repetitive assembly tasks for extended periods.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
Ability to perform fine motor tasks requiring dexterity and precision.
Ability to wear required PPE and work in dry room or controlled-environment conditions.
Work Environment
Onsite, hands-on lab operations.
Day shift: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Swing shift: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM
Multiple roles are available across both shifts.
