
Senior Director, Information Technology
Job Description
The Position
As our Senior Director, Information Technology, you’ll report to the SVP, Technology & Business Operations and lead the strategy, operations, security, and evolution of Maze’s enterprise technology environment.
This is a role for a leader who can balance strategy with hands-on execution. You’ll lead our internal IT team while evolving our operating model with Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and strategic partners to deliver reliable, secure, and responsive technology services.
As Maze advances its clinical programs and prepares for increasingly complex global development, you’ll ensure our technology environment can scale with the business. You’ll partner across Clinical, Quality, Regulatory, Finance, Legal, HR, Research, Informatics, and other functions to modernize how we work, strengthen cybersecurity, improve the employee technology experience, and help expand the use of AI and automation across the company.
This position is based in our South San Francisco headquarters and requires onsite presence a minimum of three days per week.
The Impact You’ll Have
Lead Technology Strategy and Operations
- Develop and execute Maze’s enterprise IT strategy and roadmap aligned with business growth, clinical development, security, and compliance needs.
- Lead the delivery of enterprise IT services, including Microsoft 365, identity and access management, endpoints, networking, cloud services, business applications, and end-user support.
- Modernize the employee technology experience, including onboarding, access provisioning, support, and authentication.
- Establish meaningful service levels, operational metrics, and performance expectations that drive accountability and continuous improvement.
- Own IT financial planning and investment prioritization, balancing business value, risk, employee experience, scalability, and cost.
Evolve Our IT Operating Model and Build a High-Performing Organization
- Lead Maze’s transition to an effective MSP-enabled operating model across end-user support and infrastructure.
- Establish clear roles, accountability, service expectations, and ways of working between internal IT leaders, MSPs, and strategic technology partners.
- Lead, coach, and develop Maze’s IT leadership team, building trust, collaboration, and shared accountability across IT Operations, Infrastructure, and Helpdesk.
- Manage vendor performance, service quality, escalation, cost, and continuous improvement while ensuring Maze retains ownership of technology strategy, security, risk, and business outcomes.
- Create a service-oriented culture where internal teams and external partners operate as one IT organization focused on delivering an exceptional employee experience.
- Remain close enough to the technology and operations to identify issues, remove roadblocks, and guide the team effectively.
Strengthen Cybersecurity and Compliance
- Develop and execute Maze’s cybersecurity strategy and multi-year roadmap, maturing capabilities across identity, endpoints, networks, SaaS applications, data protection, monitoring, third-party risk, and incident response.
- Improve Maze’s ability to proactively identify, assess, and mitigate cybersecurity risks.
- Maintain strong disaster recovery, business continuity, and incident response capabilities.
- Support SOX, GDPR, audits, access controls, and applicable GxP and computer system validation requirements.
Partner with the Business
- Build trusted partnerships across Clinical Development, Quality, Regulatory, Finance, Legal, HR, Research, Drug Discovery, and Technical Operations.
- Establish a proactive IT business-partnership model that anticipates functional needs, identifies opportunities to improve how teams work, and translates those needs into the technology roadmap.
- Support the technology needs of global clinical development and external partners, including CROs and other service providers.
- Partner with business owners on the selection and implementation of critical platforms, including clinical, quality, and document-management systems.
- Translate business needs into practical, scalable technology solutions.
Advance AI and Automation
- Help lead the continued evolution of AI@Maze, enabling secure and responsible use of enterprise AI.
- Partner with Informatics, Data Science, Legal, and business teams on AI governance, architecture, security, and adoption.
- Evaluate enterprise AI platforms and opportunities to connect approved AI tools with internal Maze information such as SharePoint.
- Identify opportunities to automate routine work and improve productivity across the company.

What We’re Looking For
- 15+ years of progressive IT experience, including 5+ years in technology leadership.
- Experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or another highly regulated environment; clinical-stage and public-company experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated success leading enterprise IT in a cloud-first, SaaS-based environment.
- Experience managing MSPs and strategic technology partners.
- Strong cybersecurity, business continuity, disaster recovery, and compliance experience.
- Familiarity with SOX, GDPR, GxP, GAMP 5, and computer system validation.
- Experience supporting enterprise applications, identity and access management, endpoint management, networking, and end-user services.
- Experience improving operations through automation and emerging technologies, including AI.
- Strong business judgment, communication skills, and ability to partner effectively with senior leaders and cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated ability to lead through change while remaining hands-on when needed.

The expected annual salary range for employees located in the San Francisco Bay Area is $270,000-330,000. Additionally, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus.
Maze performs position-based compensation benchmarking to industry market data to ensure we pay competitive wages. Determination of starting salary will depend upon a variety of job-related factors, which may include professional experience, skills, and job location. The expected salary range for this role may be modified in the future.
