Who we are

Atoms is building the machines that power the next era of progress.

Over the last decade, software has transformed the digital world. But the physical world, where food is made, minerals are mined, goods are moved, and industries are run, remains far less intelligent, far less efficient, and far more constrained. We’re changing that.

Atoms builds Physical AI— real-world robots for the industries that move civilization forward, starting with food, mining, and transport. Our systems are designed to understand, predict, and control the real world with precision, turning complex physical operations into something more reliable, more scalable, and more productive.

This work requires more than robotics. It requires deep integration across hardware, software, AI, operations, manufacturing, and real estate. We don’t just build machines in a lab. We deploy them into real environments, operate them, learn from them, and improve them until they work at scale.

We are roboticists, engineers, operators, and builders. We believe the next great technology companies will not only transform information, but the physical systems that shape everyday life.

If you want to work on hard problems with real-world impact, join us.

About the role

We seek an experienced civil litigator to join our Legal team as Counsel, Litigation. You will manage a diverse portfolio of commercial disputes for our business units, including contractual disagreements with operators, suppliers, and third-party vendors. This role requires independent judgment, strong stakeholder communication, and the ability to quickly assess legal risks while maintaining appropriate escalation to leadership. You will work collaboratively with our teams across Atoms and fellow counsel to protect company interests and drive efficient resolution of disputes.

What you’ll do

  • Manage civil litigation matters independently, from intake through discovery, settlement negotiation, and trial preparation
  • Lead discovery processes and independently manage associated document review, interrogatories, and depositions
  • Handle disputes involving commercial contracts, including licensing agreements, operator agreements, supplier contracts, and service agreements
  • Quickly assess factual nuances and identify key legal issues to prioritize effectively
  • Make sound legal decisions with incomplete information; escalate appropriately and communicate risk clearly to stakeholders
  • Partner with Operations Managers and other business leaders to understand operational context and align legal strategy
  • Communicate proactively with stakeholders about case status, risks, and recommended actions
  • Develop familiarity with company operations, key facility disputes, and Atoms-specific litigation patterns

What we’re looking for

  • 3–6 years of litigation experience in a law firm or in-house setting
  • Admitted to practice in California
  • Demonstrated experience with civil/commercial litigation (business-to-business disputes)
  • Ability to independently manage discovery and related procedural matters
  • Trial experience or demonstrated ability to prepare cases for trial
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to assess competing priorities, make sound judgments with incomplete information, and escalate appropriately
  • Comfort with calculated risk-taking; we value adaptability over a purely conservative approach

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience at a mid-sized or larger law firm
  • Experience with contract disputes, licensing, or operator/vendor relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to balance detail-oriented legal analysis with strategic business judgment
  • Experience working with operations or business teams in a cross-functional environment
  • In-house counsel experience (not required, but helpful for understanding fast-paced business decision-making)
