About the role 

Atoms is a builder and operator of physical automation businesses — combining software, robotics, and real-world infrastructure to transform how physical goods and services are produced and delivered. As a Building Design Manager, you will own the building design process across multiple concurrent Atoms projects in the New York region — from test-fit and schematic design through construction documentation — managing the Architects and Engineers of Record (AEOR) who deliver each project. This role sits within Real Estate & Construction, working closely with the Structural Engineering, Construction, and Acquisitions teams to make sure every facility is designed on-brand, on-prototype, and ready to build quickly across markets.

What you'll do

• Manage the building design process with internal and external project stakeholders, from concept through delivery of a successful, buildable design.
• Manage Architect/Engineer of Record (AEOR) relationships, scope, and performance across multiple concurrent projects.
• Lead test-fitting and schematic modeling and drawing for new sites.
• Coordinate advanced building systems across design disciplines to keep projects technically aligned.
• Coordinate architectural/engineering due diligence work during site acquisition and feasibility.
• Identify and document regional design standards and prototype variations across markets.
• Manage the consultant process for projects, including scoping, selection, and performance tracking.
• Perform QA/QC of internal design documentation and review AEOR drawing sets for prototype compliance and overall design efficiency.
• Coordinate project aesthetics, signage, and brand intent to keep design consistent with Atoms' portfolio brands.
• Conduct site observation and punch-list review through project completion.
• Identify project strengths and weaknesses early in the design process to flag risk before it becomes costly.

What we’re looking for

• 7–10 years of relevant work experience in architecture, building design, or building design management
• 5–7 years of domain experience specifically in building/architectural design management
• Bachelor's degree preferred (architecture, design, or related field)
• Demonstrated experience managing AEOR/consultant relationships and multi-project design pipelines
• Hands-on experience with test-fit and schematic modeling/drawing
• Experience coordinating advanced building systems and design QA/QC across disciplines

What else you need to know 

This role is based in our New York office location. As a company driven by innovation and continuous change, close collaboration is essential. We’re constantly reimagining our industry, creating new products, and refining our processes, and we do our best work together. That’s why all of our office-based teams work onsite, five days a week. 

The base salary range for this role is $182,000 - $214,000 per year.

Actual compensation will be determined on an individual basis and may vary depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package. You may also be eligible for equity awards and an annual performance-based bonus.
