In order to support the mechanical systems department, Airbus Defence and Space is looking for a
Development Engineer (m/f/d) - Mechanical Analysis and Testing of Space Structures
We are seeking creative professionals with deep expertise in structural dynamics to tackle tasks in the mechanical analysis and testing of aerospace structures. The ideal candidate will bring initial professional experience in the mechanical design and verification of aerospace components (such as satellites, instruments, and mechanisms) and is eager to apply and further develop their academic and practical expertise.

Your tasks and responsibilities
Structural Analysis: Support the execution of static and dynamic structural analyses for aerospace structures, ensuring result plausibility through manual verification methods.
Performance Analysis: Conduct mechanical performance analyses for high-precision instruments and structures designed for space applications.
Testing & Simulation: Contribute to the simulation and oversight of vibration testing for satellites and their sub-components.
FEM Modeling: Develop mathematical structural models using Finite Element Analysis (FEA), focusing on application-oriented structural idealization and physical model validation using Hyperworks and NASTRAN.
Verification of Joints: Perform strength verification for joining elements in accordance with VDI and ESA standards.
Tool Development: Assist in developing internal Matlab-based tools for workflow optimization and the processing of analytical and test data.
Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of all processes, specifically regarding mathematical models and analytical/test outcomes.
Desired skills and qualifications
Education: Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience: Prior first professional experience in the design and verification of aerospace structures is highly preferred.
Technical Expertise: Advanced proficiency in static/dynamic structural analysis (FEM) and manual calculation methods.
Software Skills: Proficiency in Nastran and Hyperworks.
Specific Knowledge: Solid understanding of space-specific requirements; experience with fiber-composite structure design and calculation is a plus.
Soft Skills: A proactive, structured work style with the ability to work both independently and effectively within a team.
Communication: Excellent communication skills.
Languages: Fluency in English (written and spoken) is mandatory, proficiency in German is an advantage.
