Salient Reaches $25M ARR Automating Auto Loan Servicing with Voice AI
Salient has grown its annualized recurring revenue to $25 million while building AI workflow automation tools tailored for auto lenders. Founded in 2023 by Ari Malik and Mukund Tibrewala, the 40-person San Francisco startup raised a $60 million Series A round led by Andreessen Horowitz, with additional backing from Matrix Partners, Y Combinator, Michael Ovitz, and General Catalyst.
Automating regulated consumer lending workflows
Salient builds AI software designed to handle complex consumer debt servicing workflows. Rather than offering horizontal AI agents, the company focuses exclusively on auto lending—a sector with $800 billion in annual U.S. debt originations. Its technology stack combines Python, large language model integrations, and transformer-based voice models to handle inbound and outbound borrower communications.
The company offers three core products. Taylor is a voice agent that conducts collections calls, handles payment scheduling, and processes total loss workflows. Marshall automates compliance monitoring and quality assurance by reviewing agent interactions against federal debt-collection standards and outputting audit reports. The platform also includes tools for charge-off management, credit dispute resolution, and insurance filing automation. Salient's system has processed over $1 billion in transactions for major lenders including Westlake Financial, American Credit Acceptance, Exeter Finance, and Consumer Portfolio Services.
Leadership background
Chief Executive Officer Ari Malik spent time in sales finance at Tesla, where he managed consumer loan servicing bottlenecks firsthand, and previously worked in venture capital at DST Global, Temasek, and Goldman Sachs. He holds a degree in computer science and philosophy from Columbia University.
Chief Technology Officer Mukund Tibrewala previously worked as a software engineer at Airtable and Dropbox. He studied computer science and robotics at Carnegie Mellon University, where he built automated robotic systems.
Commercial momentum and enterprise validation
As reported by Fortune, Salient nearly doubled its ARR from $14 million to $25 million within six months, reaching an estimated $500 million valuation. Malik credited the company's retention rate—reporting zero customer churn—to embedding engineering teams directly within client operating centers to address regulatory edge cases.
According to Tearsheet, Salient now serves roughly half of the top 20 auto lenders in the United States. Westlake Financial reported generating $12 million in annual operational savings after deploying Salient across its servicing departments.
PR Newswire reported that JPMorganChase inducted Salient into its Hall of Innovation during its 17th annual Technology Innovation Symposium, recognizing the startup's enterprise compliance framework and production deployments.
Engineering and hiring plans
Salient is currently hiring for 14 open positions at its San Francisco headquarters. The company operates on an entirely on-site work model.
To support product expansion, the company is recruiting a Telephony Infrastructure Engineer to maintain low-latency audio pipelines, a Lead Product Manager, Voice AI to guide agent behavior, and an Applied AI Engineer to refine internal model architectures.
