Pave Expands Real-Time Compensation Platform and Engineering Hiring

Pave builds software that helps private and public companies benchmark, plan, and communicate employee compensation in real time. Founded in 2019 and headquartered in San Francisco, California, the company integrates directly with human resource information systems, applicant tracking systems, and cap table platforms to give employers anonymized market data on salaries, bonuses, and equity grants. According to Yahoo Finance, Pave now aggregates compensation records across more than 9,000 companies.

The company announced Total Rewards Live 2026, a summit scheduled for October 6, 2026, in San Francisco for compensation and total rewards executives, as reported by Yahoo Finance. The event focuses on pay strategy for specialized roles, equity allocation design, and compliance with pay transparency legislation.

Executive Leadership and Tech Architecture

Pave was founded by Chief Executive Officer Matt Schulman, a former Facebook software engineer with dual degrees in computer science and business from the University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton School. Schulman launched the startup through Y Combinator’s S20 batch under the initial name Trove before rebranding to Pave in late 2020. The company raised $100 million in Series C funding at a $1.6 billion valuation in 2022 in a round led by Index Ventures, with participation from Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, and YC Continuity, according to Business Insider.

Pave's technical infrastructure focuses on collecting, normalizing, and securing sensitive payroll and equity data. The frontend application uses React, Redux, and TypeScript to present visual compensation statements and leveling tools to managers and candidates. The backend services run on Google Cloud Functions with Firestore, backed by plans to transition workloads to AWS.

To expand its integrations, Pave partnered with Morgan Stanley at Work to connect its benchmarking data layer directly to the Shareworks platform, as reported by Morgan Stanley.
