Both investments tie directly to its contracts with the U.S. Space Force and its integration of the Owl sensor onto Blue Origin’s Blue Ring spacecraft.

CEO Josiah Gruber framed the hiring as a response to demand for space domain awareness capabilities. The company’s TACFI awards from the Space Force provide a steady revenue stream to fund the payroll.

Six of the 11 roles are engineering-focused: Director of Engineering, Optomechanical Engineer, Satellite Electrical Engineer, Senior Flight Software Engineer, Senior Mission Systems Engineer, Senior Parts and Reliability Engineer, Spacecraft Thermal Engineer, and IT Administrator. The rest cover finance, sales, operations, and a catch-all “Future Scout Team Members” slot.

Every posting lists “Reston, VA” as the duty location. The careers page frames it as a preference: “Our positions are based in Reston, Virginia, with much of our team operating in a hybrid or remote fashion. Our preference is for candidates in or around this area (or willing to relocate) as we scale our facilities.”

With 72% of roles remote, Scout Space can recruit nationally for software, systems, and business positions. The 17% hybrid slice captures leadership and infrastructure roles that bridge lab and cloud. The single on-site IT Administrator keeps the Reston facility running so remote engineers have a reliable backend.
