Careers at Tako: Teams, Pay and How to Get Hired

By James Okafor

Who gets hired and onto which teams

Tako Innovations Brazil LTDA (CNPJ 59.165.629/0001-34) operates from São Paulo, Brazil. The company builds an AI platform for HR, People Ops, and labor compliance with two products on shared infrastructure: Tako Payroll & People Ops, which replaces payroll and HR systems with real-time calculations and native eSocial integration, and Tako Recruiter, which connects to existing ATSs, interviews qualified candidates via the AI agent Nara, and returns decision-ready scorecards.

Zero G Talent's live board (ingested directly from the company ATS) lists six open roles in São Paulo as of the latest ingest: Software Engineer (Afirmativa para Mulheres), Tako Fellowship Program, AI Revenue accelerator, Client Operations | Onboarding, Agent Operations | Benefícios, and Early Career. Alion shows four active engineering postings as of September 18, 2026: two Software Engineer and two Staff Software Engineer roles, all in-office, full-time, with equity, requiring Python, Go, JavaScript, TypeScript, DynamoDB, OpenSearch, React.js, and AWS (Lambda, Step Functions, API Gateway).

The role mix indicates three functions: core engineering, go-to-market operations, and a structured entry pipeline. The affirmative-action designation on engineering roles and the fellowship/early-career tracks signal deliberate pipeline investment. The company's LinkedIn page describes the engineering team as "o melhor time de Engenharia de Software do mercado" hiring people who "gostem de resolver problemas reais e complexos" with "autonomia para a tomada de decisão."

Baseline qualifications are not published in a single careers page. The engineering postings emphasize backend skills and modern stack fluency. Those operations roles suggest customer-facing work in Portuguese and English with API comfort. The fellowship and early-career tracks target earlier-career candidates.

Public channels have not detailed internal team topology — whether engineers sit in squads, tribes, or a flatter pod model; how design and product partner with engineering; or whether a platform team exists beneath product-facing groups. LinkedIn reports 51–200 employees; Alion reports 201–500. The company's technical messaging emphasizes "amplifying human expertise" over replacing it.

What it pays

Public compensation data for Tako is fragmented across entities. Three aggregators measure different legal entities and none breaks out equity or benefits in detail. These numbers are directional, useful for setting expectations, not for negotiating.

Base salary bands from aggregators

Source Entity measured Date Average / median Reported range Top role cited
Levels.fyi "Tako" (unspecified) undated Software Engineer, Common Range Average: $159,166 total comp (base + stock + bonus)
WeLoveProduct "Tako" (unspecified) 2026 postings Product Designer: $153,100 – $200,000 Senior Product Manager, Staff Product Designer, Staff Product Manager, Product Designer, Product Manager
Salary.com Tako Technologies (US) Jan 2025 $84,592 $74,410 – $95,874
Salary.com Tako Inc (US) Dec 2024 $97,959 $86,275 – $110,526

The two Salary.com entries (one for "Tako Technologies," one for "Tako Inc") differ by roughly $13k on the average and show non-overlapping ranges. Neither identifies which legal entity maps to the São Paulo operation hiring today. Levels.fyi's single data point ($159k total for a software engineer) sits well above both Salary.com averages, but it's a "Common Range Average" for one role, not a company-wide figure. WeLoveProduct's Product Designer band ($153k–$200k) aligns more closely with the Levels.fyi number, suggesting product and engineering roles may cluster in the $150k–$200k total-comp range for senior individual contributors at the measured entity.

What the board postings show

The board lists those six roles detailed above. No salary bands appear on those listings.

Equity, vesting, benefits: no public detail

The research contains zero Tako-specific information on equity grant mechanics (ISO vs. NSO vs. RSU), vesting schedules (cliff, monthly, quarterly, double-trigger), refresh policies, or benefits (health, retirement, leave, education stipends, hardware budgets). Generic equity primers describe market norms (four-year vesting with a one-year cliff, monthly thereafter; double-trigger acceleration on change of control; 83(b) election windows) but none is sourced to Tako. Until the company publishes an equity guide or candidates share offer letters, assume you'll need to ask directly in the offer stage.

How to read the spread

  • Benchmarking a senior IC offer in São Paulo: the $150k–$200k total-comp band from Levels.fyi and WeLoveProduct is the strongest signal, WeLoveProduct's data shows the $200k top end, but both sources are undated or forward-looking (2026 postings), so confirm currency (USD vs. BRL) and whether figures reflect local-market adjustment or US-equivalent pay.
  • Evaluating an operations or early-career role: the Salary.com averages ($85k–$98k) may be closer, though they reflect US entities and may not transfer.
  • Equity is a black box. Ask for the current 409A valuation, the percentage of the fully-diluted pool your grant represents, the vesting schedule, and whether refresh grants are standard after the first year.
  • Benefits are undocumented. Brazilian labor law (CLT) mandates 13th salary, vacation bonus, FGTS, and employer-paid social security; any private health, dental, meal vouchers, or equity are additive. Confirm what Tako layers on top.

Bottom line: the only numbers you can cite with a source are the four rows above. Everything else — equity structure, vesting, benefits, São Paulo vs. US differentials — is an open question you'll need to resolve with the recruiter or hiring manager.

How the hiring process works

Tako sells an AI recruiting agent called Nara as part of Tako Recruiter, launched May 4, 2026. The product drafts evaluation plans, criteria, and interview scripts; the hiring team adjusts; then Nara conducts interviews. The company uses its own product: LinkedIn posts show nearly 2,000 candidates tested Nara live at the ITA and Poli-USP career fairs.

What happens after Nara's screen isn't publicly documented in detail. The careers page and engineering blog don't publish a stage-by-stage breakdown, and employee accounts on the record are sparse. First-party board data confirms Tako is actively hiring across the six São Paulo roles.

For candidates, the practical implication is clear: your first interaction will likely be with an AI interviewer calibrated to the role's rubric. Strong applications show concrete, scoped ownership: a shipping record on a hard subsystem, a migration you led end-to-end, a revenue-bearing feature you defined and delivered.

No bright-line disqualifiers are published. The unknowns are real: no published count of on-site rounds, no public case-study format, no documented timeline from application to offer. Tako's own hiring page doesn't lay it out. If you're interviewing, ask the recruiter for the current loop structure — number of rounds, who you'll meet, whether a presentation or live coding session is expected — and treat the answer as ground truth.

Where the work happens

Tako operates from a single physical headquarters in São Paulo, Brazil, specifically in the city of São Paulo, where the company is incorporated under that same registration. Every open role listed on the company's careers portal as of September 2026 is marked "in office" and located in São Paulo; the four active postings on Alion all require on-site presence. LinkedIn confirms the sede (headquarters) in São Paulo and a headcount of 51–200 employees, while the Brazilian corporate registry anchors the legal entity to the same address. A third-party database (VCbacked.co) lists San Francisco as the headquarters, but that record dates to October 2024 and conflicts with the more current, locally sourced filings and job data; the weight of evidence places the operating center in São Paulo.

The office hosts programmed in-person rituals. In 2024, Tako hosted the first edition of "#TakoSales | Portas Abertas" at the escritório, inviting sales professionals to spend three hours with the commercial team, hear the sales strategy, discuss AI's impact on B2B operations, and close with pizza and networking; a second edition was in planning. The same space hosts client-facing events: the "#TakoInsights: Claude workshop" brought customers in for hands-on training on MCP and new platform features, followed by "#TakoMeets," where 100 HR, payroll, and finance executives from major Brazilian companies gathered, including the Ingresse HR team demonstrating daily AI use, and Tako soft-launched TakoBenefits for existing payroll clients.

The office also absorbs the company's early-career pipeline. In August 2024, Tako closed the first cohort of its #SummerJob program: seven Brazilian students returning from universities abroad for a ten-week immersion. The "Verões," as they nicknamed themselves, spent the first weeks rotating through every function — engineering, product, operations, sales, before owning individual projects with dedicated mentors. Final presentations went to leadership, and several projects shipped into production. A second cohort was in preparation as of the last public update.

Day-to-day, the engineering team — currently hiring at Staff+ level for backend roles, works alongside the Agent Operations squad, whose members "já viveram o fechamento por dentro" (have lived payroll close from the inside). That domain depth trains the AI agents, builds the skills, and keeps the operation tight for both customer and machine. Sales, customer success, and the fledgling sales enablement function share the same space.

There are no hardware labs, test cells, machine shops, or integration floors; Tako builds software agents for payroll, recruiting, and people operations. The LinkedIn page notes "Folha que fecha em horas. Admissão em 3 minutos" (payroll closes in hours, onboarding in three minutes) and "70% menos retrabalho" (70% less rework). The voice interviewer Nara was stress-tested by nearly 2,000 live candidates at those fairs.

Who thrives here

The profile of someone who lasts at Tako starts with the company's own founding provocation: a deliberate rejection of the "9-9-6 schedule" (the 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., six-day workweek normalized in parts of China's tech sector). The founder framed Tako's culture against that model on LinkedIn, positioning the company as a place where leverage comes from better tools and sharper judgment, not brute hours.

Employee reviews on Indeed for the São Paulo entity show aggregate scores of 3.0 for work-life balance, 2.7 for pay and benefits, 3.3 for job security and advancement, 2.7 for management, and 2.9 for culture. Glassdoor shows only three reviews for "Tako Agency," a name that may refer to a different entity or an older brand; too thin to draw signal from. Listings for "TAKO Astatic Technology" (Malaysia) and "TAKO MEGA CONSTRUCTION" (India, 2.5 on AmbitionBox from 14 reviews) are unrelated companies; they share a name, not a cap table.

A LinkedIn post from the company notes "obsession with engineering greatness" and a team trip to the Brazil Conference at Harvard. The "Afirmativa para Mulheres" designation on the software engineer role shows intentional hiring on gender balance. The fellowship program and "Early Career" posting indicate Tako hires raw talent and expects rapid ramp.

Those operations roles involve the intersection where product meets user. Tako's product surface involves AI-driven revenue tooling and agent workflows. The review data's 3.3 on job security and advancement — the highest single score, suggests internal mobility exists.

The first SummerJob cohort shipped code that still runs in production. The next cohort is already being recruited. The office that hosted 100 HR executives for TakoMeets will host the next Portas Abertas. The AI interviewer that screened 2,000 candidates at two career fairs will screen the next applicant before a human ever reads a résumé.
