Brickanta Backs Construction Pre-Build Decisions With $8M Seed Round

By Zero G Talent•

Pre-construction decisions determine whether complex industrial projects finish in the black or spiral into overruns. Stockholm-based startup Brickanta builds an AI-native platform designed to manage the front end of that process, automating bid analysis, cost estimation, and procurement workflows.

Founded in 2025 and backed by Y Combinator's F25 batch, the eight-person startup closed an $8 million seed round led by Northzone to scale its software across Europe, as reported by ArcticStartup. The round also included participation from 20VC, SSE Business Lab, and angel investors such as Anton Osika of Lovable, alongside professional athletes Mario Götze and Cody Mathès Gakpo.

The company is currently expanding its technical and go-to-market footprint, with 12 open positions listed at its Stockholm headquarters.

Automating Pre-Construction Analysis

Brickanta targets the phase where general contractors and builders examine thousands of pages of tender documents, architectural specifications, and historical cost sheets to bid on projects. The software ingests proprietary organizational data, past estimates, and regional technical standards to surface omissions, highlight unpriced risks, and assemble trade-specific procurement packages.

According to reporting in Tech.eu, the platform allows procurement teams to compile category-specific Request for Proposal (RFP) packages in 15 minutes, down from the days typically spent assembling sub-packages manually. For cost estimators, identifying or pricing a single change order during pre-construction can decide whether an entire contract remains profitable.

As detailed by Forbes, which named the company to its 2026 30 Under 30 Europe AI list, the platform produces proprietary reports with recommendations on accurate pricing and flagged overruns. The company has onboarded enterprise clients across 11 countries on four continents, building on regulatory standards such as Europe's Eurocodes.

The Team Behind the System

Brickanta was founded by Lucas Otterling and Linus Bein Fahlander (also listed as Linus Fahlander).

Otterling, who serves as CEO, holds a bachelor's degree in business and economics from the Stockholm School of Economics. A former professional footballer and indie app developer, Otterling focuses on go-to-market execution. In an interview with ArcticStartup, Otterling stated: "Construction is often described as conservative, but our experience has been the opposite – the response has been fantastic. The next-generation builders are eager to embrace AI specifically built for how they actually build the physical world around us."

Bein Fahlander serves as CTO and completed a bachelor of science in computer science at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology between 2017 and 2020. His focus centers on parsing unstructured construction documents, writing in his bio: "We are trying to give time back to one of the most critical roles in construction companies, the estimator. We believe that builders shouldn't spend heaps of time searching through 1000s of documents - they should be building."

The company's founding team has worked with machine learning implementations in industrial sectors since 2018. Following its seed financing, the company won the Techarena Challenge 2026, as reported by Techarenan News, and was highlighted by EU-Startups as one of Sweden's fastest-growing applied AI startups.

Growth Capital and Hiring Trajectory

Additional reporting by Tech Funding News noted that Brickanta's seed round closed in under two weeks. Beyond lead investor Northzone—known for backing infrastructure and B2B SaaS firms—the syndicate includes construction and real estate operators such as Johan Edenström, Tobias Hedlund, and Kalle Erlandsson, along with technical operators from OpenAI, Google, and Meta.

Brickanta is deploying its fresh capital into engineering, delivery, and sales. Its 12 open roles fall into three functional tracks:

  1. Engineering and Platform Architecture: The team is hiring mid-level technical talent to integrate its document-processing pipelines directly into customer environments. Open roles include Solution Engineer - Integrations Focus and Forward Deployed Engineer, supported by Software / AI Engineering.
  2. Construction Operations and Domain Experts: Because the core models evaluate trade-specific specifications, Brickanta embeds civil engineering practitioners directly into model testing and feedback loops. Active listings include Construction Engineer - Bygg / Entreprenadingenjör (Swedish) and Construction Evaluation Engineer - Part-Time.
  3. Commercial Expansion: To handle pipeline growth across the European Union, Brickanta is recruiting an Account Executive, a Business Developer, and a Brand Marketing Manager, alongside a hybrid commercial-technical GTM Engineer - build the bridge between product and revenue.

The company is also preparing future cohorts through the Developer Intern - Summer 2027 and Business Intern - Summer 2027 positions, in addition to an Open Application - if you’re a builder, reach out listing for general profiles. All open positions require on-site presence at the Stockholm office.
