Brand Editorial Lead

Laylo
New York, NY
Full Time
Compensation
$120,000–$155,000/year

Job Description

Laylo is the CRM powering iconic artists and live events. The platform combines landing pages, messaging, link tracking, and more to drive more tickets, merch and streams through Instagram DM, SMS and Email. Today, we power CRM across hundreds of millions of fans for some of the most iconic names in entertainment like Sabrina Carpenter, Zara Larsson, Isaiah Rashad, Noah Kahan, Dijon, Porter Robinson, the xx, Outside Lands, CRSSD, and thousands more.

Role Overview

We’re looking for an exceptional storyteller who can find the interesting angle, turn it into something people actually want to read and consume, and build a distinctive voice for Laylo.

Your primary craft is writing. You’ll also use that craft to shape campaigns, customer stories, and industry experiences.

Our customers are the managers, marketers and promoters behind tours, shows and album releases. We have far more of their stories than we have capacity to tell, and this role exists to source them, write them, and get the rest of the industry reading them. You'll own what Laylo sounds like everywhere it shows up: the site, the campaigns, the stories we publish, and the rooms we put people in.

Reporting directly to the Head of Growth, you'll work closely with Sales, Partnerships, Product and Design. This work is measured on pipeline: the stories, campaigns and channel exist to bring the right managers, promoters and marketers to Laylo. You're likely a good fit if you ship at a high velocity while having a high bar for taste & craft.

Requirements

  • Writing
    • 5+ years in writing-first brand, editorial, or content roles, with a portfolio showing exceptional work across multiple formats and experience independently taking stories from idea to published work.
    • You can interview someone, find the story, establish the angle, and deliver publication ready work yourself.
  • Editorial judgement
    • A clear, opinionated point of view on what makes company content worth reading/watching or interacting with.
  • Shipping
    • You don’t require an agency, large team, or three rounds of creative direction. You can take something from blank page to publish at startup pace.
    • Builds and uses AI & automation to accelerate workflows
  • Show us work that demonstrates
    • Shipped publicly and you’re proud to put your name behind.
    • Something you built that developed a real audience. Tell us how big it got and how fast.
  • Useful, but not required: events, entertainment industry experience, product marketing.

You'll thrive here if you

  • Are comfortable being the first and last draft: it's ready when it reaches us.
  • Know how to write in multiple formats for varying channels and mediums.
  • Know what to cut, and kill your own good sentences.
  • Build your own systems to speed up drafting and revision.
  • Ship on a regular cadence
  • Set the standard for how Laylo writes, then write to it yourself.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Stories

  • Source and run interviews with the managers, marketers and promoters behind tours, shows and releases
  • Ship 2+ stories a month, then cut each one into the social posts, newsletter sends and sales collateral that carry it further
  • Get them read: Work with Head of Growth to pitch, place and distribute so the story reaches the rest of the industry, not only our own channels

Campaigns & Launches

  • Turn GTM briefs into campaign concepts, messaging and finished copy across web, email, social and other launch surfaces
  • Develop the hooks, headlines, narratives and creative angles that bring campaigns to life
  • Partner with Growth on product launches, bringing the editorial angle and the execution to the GTM plan
  • Work directly with Design, Partnerships and external partners to get the work shipped

Voice

  • Write and edit across everything else we publish: website, lifecycle, blog, social and sales collateral
  • Raise the level of everyone else's writing: edit teammates' copy, coach the people who write often, and make the standard learnable rather than just documented
  • Create the voice guidelines and AI workflows the whole company can use

Channels

  • Events: Collaborate with the Head of Growth on events to invest in based on cost and return. You help curate what the night should feel like.
  • Owned Channel: Collaborate with Head of Growth on owned channel to build. You set the format, the cadence, the audience, and the bar for what goes out.

What Success Looks Like

  • 2-3 customer stories ship a month to start, and you sourced both of them yourself
  • Copy ships weekly, without a round on voice
  • Voice guidelines and an AI workflow exist that other people at Laylo actually use
  • The owned channel has an audience that didn't exist a year ago, and it's still growing
  • Customers bring up curated events unprompted, and you shaped what they felt like
  • Stories, campaigns and the channel produce inbound conversations we can point to, not just impressions

This Role Is NOT For You If

  • You want to set brand direction and hand it off. You'll be writing the copy yourself, every week.
  • You need long runways and multiple review cycles. We ship on a weekly cadence.

About Us

Our founders met while building competing consumer startups. We launched multiple products across consumer and SaaS and talked to thousands of fans and creators in the process. In 2020, we realized one of the biggest pain points artists and events face is actually driving their audience from socials into their own CRM.

In 2020, we joined Y Combinator's summer batch and began building a product that quickly gained strong early traction. We raised from top-tier investors like Eldridge and Sony and have since grown into a team of 24 exceptional individuals spanning product, sales, and operations.

We have a strong written documentation culture. We try to do as much as possible asynchronously to move quickly and efficiently. We have a daily 30 minute standup and team-specific meetings throughout the week.
