Job Description

About Anthropic

Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.

About the Role

As an AV Operations Specialist, you'll be accountable for how the AV spaces perform, how support requests get resolved, and how events land in the space you're responsible for. This role will help own all areas within the AV landscape. In a given week you might execute a preventative maintenance sweep across a floor of conference rooms, work the support queue and drive a recurring failure to root cause, and then run technical coverage for an all-hands or an executive presentation that evening.

You'll be the regional presence our AV Engineering and Production teams build on — the person who catches problems before users report them, and who turns what you learn on the ground into standards the rest of the team can run from. Your work directly enables the collaboration and transparency that advance our AI safety mission.

Responsibilities

Site Ownership & Room Health

  • Serve as the AV owner for your office — accountable for the health, readiness, and performance of every room and event space in the building
  • Execute preventative maintenance programs and recurring room sweeps on a defined cadence, not only in response to tickets
  • Maintain accurate inventory of room systems, peripherals, wireless microphones, cameras, and portable production gear, including spares strategy and replacement cycles
  • Coordinate AV scope for office moves, room reconfigurations, and new-space readiness in partnership with Workplace and AV Engineering
  • Know your estate: maintain the room documentation, as-builts, and site-specific gotchas that make your office supportable by anyone on the team

Support Operations

  • Help own the AV support queue — triage, prioritization, resolution, and escalation with clear diagnostic context
  • Participate in the regional AV on-run rotation (West, East, or EMEA), covering AV issues during local business hours alongside the daily room-check discipline
  • Systematically isolate faults to a point in the signal chain rather than reaching for reboots and cable swaps
  • Drive recurring issues to root cause and surface them to AV Engineering as candidates for platform-level or design-level fixes
  • Contribute to runbooks, standard operating procedures, and knowledge base documentation that other technicians follow

Event Support & Production

  • Provide technical coverage for live and hybrid events in your office — from small executive presentations and team meetings through to all-hands and company-wide broadcasts
  • Operate event production systems including audio consoles, video switchers, camera systems, playback, and streaming encoders
  • Run pre-event readiness: walkthroughs, rehearsals, source checks, gear staging, and failover planning
  • Handle scoping conversations with requesters — translating what a stakeholder wants the event to feel like into an equipment and staffing plan that fits the team's SLA
  • Turn novel one-off events into repeatable standards — a template, runbook, or gear list that makes the next one easier for the whole team

Vendor Direction & Cross-functional Partnership

  • Direct AV integrators, contractors, and event labor on site, holding them to defined scope, SLAs, and quality standards
  • Partner with Workplace, Events, and IT on lead times, expectations, and readiness
  • Act as the regional feedback loop to AV Engineering — what's failing, what's missing, and what the standard should be
  • Communicate status, risk, and resolution to non-technical stakeholders in clear, calm, jargon-free language

You May Be a Good Fit If You:

  • Have 5+ years of hands-on experience in AV operations, workplace technology, or technical event support
  • Have owned a standing estate — the same rooms, the same stakeholders, week over week — and were accountable for how those spaces performed over time
  • Bring working fluency across room systems, event audio, video, camera, and streaming, with enough depth to diagnose problems rather than only report them
  • Are comfortable being the only AV person in the building, and can prioritize independently across maintenance, support, and events
  • Bring structure to ambiguity — checklists, intake processes, maintenance cadences, and documentation
  • Are energized rather than drained by being the front-facing technical partner to executives, event producers, and everyone else who walks up to you in a hallway
  • Take ownership end-to-end, from noticing a recurring failure to getting it permanently fixed
  • Thrive in a fast-moving environment where standards are being written rather than inherited

Strong Candidates May Also Have Experience With:

  • Q-SYS DSP platforms — comfortable navigating and reasoning about existing audio/video routing and control designs
  • Logitech CollabOS and Sync, Google Meet hardware, Zoom Rooms, and enterprise room system administration
  • Preventative maintenance and room-sweep programs across a distributed room fleet
  • Broadcast video switchers such as Blackmagic ATEM, Ross Carbonite, or NewTek TriCaster
  • Digital audio mixing consoles such as Yamaha DM7 or CL/QL series, and Shure wireless systems
  • PTZ camera systems and multi-camera workflows
  • Ticketing and workflow systems such as Jira, and participation in an on-run rotation
  • Coordinating AV contractors, integrators, and labor for site support and event coverage
  • CTS certification or equivalent demonstrated capability

Role Specific Location Policy:

  • This role will be based in our San Francisco or New York office
  • This role is expected to be in office 5 days per week
  • Occasional evening and early-morning coverage is expected around major events
  • 2-4 weeks of travel annually may be expected for this role for distributed support, office buildout support, and event coverage as needed

Deadline to apply: None. Applications will be received on a rolling basis.

The annual compensation range for this role is listed below.

For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role.

$230,000$285,000 USD

We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.

How we're different

We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.

The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.

Come work with us!

Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.
