Vast is developing next-generation space stations and space infrastructure using an incremental, hardware-rich, and low-cost approach. Vast is rapidly developing its multi-module Haven Station to ensure a continuous human presence in space for America and its allies, enabling advanced microgravity research and manufacturing, and unlocking a new space economy for government, corporate, and private customers. Haven Demo’s 2025 success made Vast the only operational commercial space station company to fly and operate its own spacecraft. Next, Haven-1 is expected to become the world’s first commercial space station when it launches in 2027, followed by additional Haven modules. Additionally, the company recently announced Vast Satellite, a high-power satellite product line leveraging its space station components and the heritage of Haven Demo.
Headquartered in Long Beach, California, and with more than 1,000 employees and over a billion dollars in private capital, Vast has built the facilities required to manufacture and operate America’s next space station. The company plans to develop future habitats and systems for the Moon and Mars, dedicated space stations for government partners, and other crewed systems that will unlock the expanding long-term space economy.
Vast is looking for a Metrology Coordinator, reporting to the Manager, Test Site Operations, to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of human-rated space stations.
This will be a full-time, non-exempt position located in our Mojave location.
Responsibilities:
- Identify and record all calibrated tools which include but are not limited to torque wrenches, micrometers, calipers, and electronic devices
- Monthly audits and inspection of calibrated tools and equipment
- Work with metrology team at headquarters for documentation submission and management
- Pull and hand over documentation to technicians and engineers upon request. Majority of these requests will be for electrical components such as pressure transducers, load cells, flow meters, and accelerometers amongst others
- Inspect new tooling and equipment to ensure there are no manufacturing defects that may cause items to not function properly
- Ensure all tooling and equipment maintain compliance with VAST’s quality standards
- Labeling of calibrated tooling and equipment with asset tags and calibration data which includes expiration dates, pass/fail status, SNs, and other pertinent information
- Basic cross departmental support when assigned, only when primary responsibilities are taken care of
Minimum Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of manufacturing, tool crib or data entry experience
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory (PMEL) and/or Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) experience
- Familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025, AS9100D and ISO9001
- In depth knowledge and experience within Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Experience using shop equipment
- Ability to work outside in extreme heat and cold in a desert environment
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted
