The Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis-based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, technology development, warfighter capability enablers, systems integration, defense industrial base, and threat reduction to help shape existing and future space missions across the national security space (NSS) enterprise. DSG is unique at Aerospace as it not only directly supports major customers, including the U.S. Space Force, U.S. Space Command, Air Force Material Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a broad range of technical support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with customers’ portfolios as well as horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation. Additionally, DSG provides deep technical expertise to the Space Force Space Systems Command (SSC) in the conception, design, acquisition, launch and operations of satellite, launch vehicle, ground control, and range systems.


Within DSG, the Space Based Sensing Division/Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) Operations and Sustainment Department supports Space Systems Command Space Sensing OPIR acquisition, supporting development of future ground system capability evolutions as well as sustainment of current DoW OPIR Missile Warning systems. We are looking for a Systems Analyst to conduct system performance analysis (based on OPIR mission processing), support design of future ground system capability evolutions, support Missile Warning and Battlespace Awareness operations, and conduct analysis of ground system software updates for current operational systems.


The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility at Buckley Space Force Base, CO (in Aurora, CO).


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Collaborate with the Aerospace OPIR Operations and Sustainment Team Lead Analyst to assess and evaluate Missile Warning and Battlespace Awareness mission processing performance
  • Collaborate with distributed software development teams to design and develop Python-based analysis tools for Missile Warning and Battlespace Awareness
  • Integrate OPIR sensor data with ground processing systems and deploy Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning models to improve mission performance and analytical capabilities
  • Build automated analysis tools and scripts to support OPIR mission processing and performance assessment activities.
  • Contribute to OPIR mission processing development activities of future ground system capability evolutions, to include co-operative Missile Warning and Battlespace Awareness performance analysis with contractors and oversight of test and verification activities

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements for Project Engineer – Signal and Image Process Engineering and Artificial Intelligence:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related technical field
  • 8 or more years of relevant experience that includes systems analysis with analysis tool development, ideally including evaluation of missile warning performance
  • Demonstrated coding experience with Python and associated data science, engineering, or scientific related Python libraries
  • Experience establishing and maintaining trusted relationships with government customers, prime and support contractors, and key stakeholders
  • Current Secret clearance and ability to obtain TS/ SCI which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

In addition to the above, the minimum requirements for Sr. Project Engineer – Signal and Image Process Engineering and Artificial Intelligence include:

  • 12 or more years of relevant experience that includes systems analysis with analysis tool development, ideally including evaluation of missile warning performance
  • Demonstrated coding experience with Python and associated data science, engineering, or scientific related Python libraries
  • Experience establishing and maintaining trusted relationships with government customers, prime and support contractors, and key stakeholders
  • Demonstrated capability to balance multiple program priorities while serving as a technical subject matter expert and liaison
  • Current Secret clearance and ability to obtain TS/ SCI which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Demonstrated coding experience with two or more of the following programming languages: Python, C/C++, Visual Basic
  • Experience with coding tools to read, write, and utilize Google Protocol buffers
  • Experience with scripting tools such as PERL and Unix/Linux environments
  • Familiarity with Systems Tool Kit (STK) including automation of STK tasks with Python
  • Knowledge of missile warning mission, OPIR sensors, data, and mission data processing
  • Knowledge of AI/ML algorithms for classification
  • A current Top Secret/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the US Government
  • Advanced degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related technical field
