HR Generalist

Job Description

We’re looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented HR Generalist to join our Global HR team in Munich. You’ll support employees and managers across Germany and Luxembourg, while contributing to HR operations across the UK and wider EMEA region as needed.

Reporting to the Senior Global HR Business Partner, you’ll own the day-to-day delivery of core HR processes—from onboarding and employment changes to benefits, leave and offboarding. You’ll help create a consistent, responsive employee experience while ensuring our processes, systems and records remain accurate, compliant and scalable.

You’ll be a trusted first point of contact for employees and managers, providing practical guidance on policies and routine HR matters. You’ll use sound judgement to resolve day-to-day queries independently and involve the appropriate HR Business Partner, specialist team or Legal partner when matters carry greater complexity or risk.

This is a varied, operational role for someone who enjoys taking ownership, improving how things work and collaborating across countries and functions.

What You’ll Do

HR Operations and the Employee Lifecycle

  • Own employee lifecycle processes across Germany and Luxembourg, including onboarding, probation reviews, internal transfers, promotions, contractual changes and offboarding.
  • Prepare accurate, locally compliant employment documentation, including contracts, amendments, confirmation letters and employee correspondence.
  • Track lifecycle events and required actions, ensuring they are completed accurately and on time.
  • Maintain complete and accurate personnel files in line with local requirements and Spire standards.
  • Act as a first point of contact for employees and managers, providing clear, timely guidance on policies, processes and routine HR matters.
  • Support HR Business Partners with the implementation and administration of employee and organisational changes.
  • Identify complex employee relations, performance, organisational change or employment-law matters and escalate them appropriately.

Benefits, Equity and Leave

  • Coordinate the day-to-day administration of employee benefits across Germany and Luxembourg.
  • Partner with external benefits providers and Spire’s Total Rewards team to resolve queries and maintain an effective employee experience.
  • Support benefit renewals, enrolment activity and employee communications.
  • Help administer employee equity and share plans, coordinating documentation, communications and HR processes with the Global Total Rewards team.
  • Coordinate statutory and company leave, including maternity, parental leave, sickness absence and other country-specific entitlements.
  • Guide employees and managers through benefit and leave processes, escalating complex or exceptional cases when needed.

HR Systems and Data

  • Maintain accurate employee data in Rippling and related HR systems.
  • Conduct regular audits to identify and resolve gaps or inconsistencies in employee records.
  • Produce routine reports and support audit, compliance and information requests.
  • Maintain HR templates, employee documentation and shared repositories with appropriate version control.
  • Respond to routine HR system queries and coordinate the resolution of technical or configuration issues.
  • Support HR system implementations, enhancements and opportunities to improve employee and manager self-service.

Payroll Coordination

  • Provide Payroll with accurate, timely information relating to new hires, leavers, compensation changes, leave and other employee updates.
  • Review payroll inputs and supporting data within agreed deadlines.
  • Partner with Payroll to investigate and resolve routine employee data or payroll queries.
  • Escalate discrepancies or more complex payroll matters to the appropriate team.

Compliance and Regional HR Administration

  • Administer HR processes in accordance with employment requirements, Spire policies and established procedures across Germany and Luxembourg.
  • Support local compliance activities, including mandatory employment documentation, statutory reporting, personnel records and works council information requirements where applicable.
  • Coordinate immigration and work-authorisation documentation when required.
  • Support external audits and compliance reviews.
  • Maintain employee information and HR documentation in accordance with GDPR and internal governance requirements.
  • Apply Spire’s global HR processes consistently while ensuring documented local requirements and country-specific practices are followed.
  • Recognise potential employment-law, employee relations or compliance risks and involve the appropriate HR Business Partner or Legal partner.

Process Improvement and Global Programmes

  • Identify opportunities to simplify, automate and standardise HR processes.
  • Create and maintain process documentation, standard operating procedures and employee or manager guidance.
  • Support the rollout of HR policies, templates, systems and global initiatives.
  • Contribute to annual programmes such as compensation reviews, performance cycles and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects supporting Spire’s continued growth across EMEA.
  • Use recurring employee and manager queries to identify opportunities for clearer guidance, stronger processes and improved self-service.

Who You Are

Essential Experience and Skills

  • You have 3–5 years of experience in an HR Generalist, People Operations or HR Operations role.
  • You have practical experience supporting employees and managers in Germany, with a sound working knowledge of German employment practices and HR compliance requirements.
  • You are professionally proficient in both German and English, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • You understand HR administration across the full employee lifecycle and can manage processes accurately from start to finish.
  • You have experience administering employee benefits and statutory or company leave.
  • You have coordinated HR inputs with Payroll and are comfortable working to fixed payroll deadlines.
  • You are confident using an HRIS such as Rippling, Workday, HiBob, BambooHR or a similar platform.
  • You are highly organised, attentive to detail and comfortable managing competing priorities in a fast-paced, international environment.
  • You take ownership, follow through on commitments and look for practical ways to improve how work gets done.
  • You handle sensitive employee information with discretion and sound judgement.
  • You can distinguish between matters you can resolve independently and those requiring support from an HR Business Partner, specialist team or Legal.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience supporting employees or HR processes in Luxembourg.
  • Experience working across the UK or multiple EMEA jurisdictions.
  • Exposure to employee equity or share-plan administration.
  • Experience partnering with payroll providers and external benefits vendors.
  • Experience working in a global technology, aerospace or similarly fast-moving organisation.
  • Experience supporting HR audits, systems implementations or process-improvement projects.

Spire operates a hybrid work model, and this position will require you to work a minimum of three days per week in the office.

Access to US export-controlled software and/or technology may be required for this role. If needed, Spire will arrange the necessary licenses—this is not something candidates need to have before applying. #LI-MK1
