SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.
SOURCING MANAGER (LAUNCH VEHICLE ELECTRONICS SYSTEMS)
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create sourcing strategies for assigned electronics categories (PCB, PCBA/contract manufacturing, electronic components, and instrumentation) to reduce risk and meet targets including payment terms, cash, and cost savings
- Develop and manage a domestic and international supply base for those categories; communicate, manage, and drive compliance to category strategies
- Work directly with key suppliers to implement sourcing and cost-management strategies for existing platforms and new product development
- Identify and execute cost-reduction projects (piece price, yield, tooling, dual-source, obsolescence) including planning, stakeholder coordination, estimated completion, and updates
- Perform quantitative and business-process analysis of spend, capacity, technical capability, and financial impact of sourcing decisions
- Evaluate demand, place and manage purchase orders, and track supplier delivery performance
- Act as the supplier interface for all RFIs, RFPs, and RFQs; run RFX with stakeholders and implement the sourcing decision
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define SLAs and KPIs for suppliers (cost, quality, on-time delivery, lead time, responsiveness) and run programs to develop and monitor the supply base
- Provide guidance to engineering on recommended suppliers, design for manufacturability, and trade analysis for avionics hardware; strong ability to read drawings, fab notes, stack-ups, and BOMs and to understand manufacturing complexity
- Ensure suppliers are prepared to support prototype, ramp, and rate with the right process, equipment, and material
- Visit supplier facilities and assess operational capability, financial health, capacity, and risk before awarding NPI and long-term production
- Mitigate sole/single-source risk; negotiate contracts for continuity of supply and to protect SpaceX interests
- Partner with internal resources to drive low-cost part adoption and obsolescence avoidance; monitor industry and technology roadmaps with design
- Present value propositions to management and executives: contract award, cost reviews, cost-reduction strategies, and critical supply issues
- Work with material planners and supply chain engineers so demand, inventory, and supplier commitment stay aligned to the build plan — planners own MRP; this seat owns the supplier, the contract, and the cost
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and with internal stakeholders across disciplines and levels of management
