MANAGER, CONSTRUCTION
As the Manager of Construction, you will own the responsibility of leading a technically excellent team to design and build office spaces across the globe. This leader will directly impact the foundation of the many SpaceX sites and work daily with executive-level staff. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage a team of direct and indirect reports within the construction team, including but not limited to construction project engineers, MEP engineers, designers, architects, and other individuals supporting construction projects
- Coordinate workload for individuals and steer prioritization
- Forecast and respond to construction project issues and escalations
- Interface with senior leaders (VP/executive) and provide construction updates
- Improve process planning by which construction projects are formulated, priced, approved, executed, and reviewed; implement full lifecycle improvements with the goal of providing on-time and under budget delivery with customer satisfaction
- Perform construction project management responsibilities as follows:
- Manage tools and folder systems relating to the organization of our construction projects
- Meet with end users/customers to establish scope of work
- Provide budgetary cost based upon the preliminary scope of the project
- Gather proposals from architects, engineers and contractors, and assign contracts upon receipt of all proposals
- Develop the final cost and schedule for the project, and implement controls as needed to manage cost, schedule and scope
- Facilitate city, county, governmental, and landlord approvals as applicable
- Coordinate project implementation, and track project status
- Visually inspect to ensure the quality and workmanship of projects
- Manage contractor payments and lien releases
- Work with the facilities team and end users in order to operationalize the post-construction building operations and maintenance functions
- Provide closeout packages to the facilities team
- Maintain “as-built” record plans
- Take on new projects ad-hoc as the business needs
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline, construction management or architecture
- 4+ years of professional experience in architecture, engineering, or construction management
- Experience leading a team in construction
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- 2+ years of leadership experience, either leading 10+ individuals and/or multi-discipline projects that involve direct and/or indirect reports
- Previous experience with project management and scheduling software
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Design experience in a technical field
- Basic proficiency with AutoCAD
- Knowledge of processes of jurisdictional permitting and/or environmental agencies
- Understanding of multiple disciplines such as civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, piping, geotechnical, and surveying
- Experience with project management of major construction projects, including estimating, cost control, schedule, and contractor management
- Experience reading, reviewing, and approving shop and fabrication drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals
- Ability to rapidly change roles/responsibilities, while maintaining a high sense of urgency in a high-paced, challenging work environment
- Ability to work independently and in a team, take initiative, and communicate effectively
- Construction cost estimate experience
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- 75%+ travel required (domestic and international) based on specific project tasks
- Position requires the ability to work extended hours and weekends when needed
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay Range:
Level 1: $175,000 - $220,000
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
