Saronic Technologies is a leader in revolutionizing autonomy at sea, dedicated to developing state-of-the-art solutions that enhance maritime operations through autonomous and intelligent platforms.
At Saronic, we're building the infrastructure to support the next generation of autonomous maritime defense systems — and that starts with the ground beneath our facilities. We're looking for an experienced, licensed civil and environmental engineer to take ownership of how we design, permit, and develop the sites where our most critical work happens.
This role sits at the heart of some of the most complex and consequential site development challenges in the defense industry. You'll be navigating coastal construction, wetlands, floodplains, and endangered species considerations — not as a checkbox exercise, but as a core part of bringing ambitious capital projects to life. From your first interaction with the USACE or a state DEC to the final commissioning walk, you'll be the owner of the environmental and civil permitting process end to end.
You'll shape company-wide standards for site and civil design, lead engagement with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies, and provide expert guidance to both internal teams and third-party engineers and contractors. Whether you're reviewing a complex stormwater management design or standing on a job site observing installation activities, your judgment will directly influence the safety, resilience, and long-term success of Saronic's facilities.
Responsibilities:
Own the development and maintenance of site, civil utilities, and storm water management design and construction standards for the company.
Own the environmental permitting process for site development on capital projects.
Participate in the early programming and development of various capital project scopes of work and documentation of project requirements with a focus on civil/site systems and design elements.
Develop permitting plan and approach for site development including interaction with USACE, State DEC/DEQ’s, local AHJ’s, and associated federal, state, and local regulatory agencies. Be main point of contact in discussion with these agencies.
Support development and issuance of requests for proposals and qualifications for various capital projects to 3rd party engineers, architects, design-build contractors and general contractors.
Review and comment on 3rd party civil and environmental designs for capital projects and provide owner based subject matter specialist (SMS) input and direction to internal and external teams.
Provide internal design, and documentation on small capital projects as needed.
Complete field visits during capital construction projects to represent owner and observe general civil/site installation and commissioning activities.
Design management of small capital projects as needed.
Travel anticipated to be up to 10% of the time for project specific visits.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or greater in Civil/Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
Licensed engineer (PE preferred).
8+ years of design, and/or construction of civil site systems for industrial, manufacturing, and/or port facility projects.
In addition to experience with general civil/site design and development, you must have experience/knowledge with various design requirements including but not limited to stormwater management, wetlands, flood plains, coastal construction and dredging, cultural resources, threatened and endangered species (plant and animal), and site resiliency.
Experience with submission and/or management of various permitting processes including USACE, state DEC/DEQ, local AHJ’s as required to address coastal, wetland, and flood plain permitting and approvals.
Proficient in developing design standards, technical project requirements documents, requests for proposals. Experience with completing 3rd party design reviews and directing engineering, production and construction teams.
Knowledge and experience using AutoCAD and/or Revit preferred.
Demonstrated success developing innovative solutions to a broad range of permitting and civil/site engineering problems and challenges.
Experience with the entire capital project life cycle.
Design management experience preferred.

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Occasional standing and walking within the office
Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment
