Founding Engineer

## The role

We are hiring a Founding Engineer to help build the core product and shape the company from the ground up.

This is not a narrow execution role. You will work across product, engineering, and customer feedback to design systems, ship features, talk to users, debug weird edge cases, and help define what great looks like. You will have outsized ownership over both the codebase and the direction of the company.

You should want to build in ambiguity, move quickly, and care deeply about product quality.

## What you’ll do

You will help architect and ship the core RetroFix platform across backend, frontend, and AI systems.

You will build product features that let users create, test, run, and monitor automations using natural language.

You will design systems that are reliable, observable, and resilient across third party APIs and messy real world workflows.

You will work directly with the founders and customers to understand problems, prototype solutions, and iterate fast.

You will improve the developer experience, code quality, and technical foundations as we scale.

You will help make key decisions around infrastructure, abstractions, product architecture, and engineering culture.

Depending on your strengths, you may also work on agent orchestration, workflow execution, app integrations, evaluation systems, or the product UX itself.

## What we’re looking for

We care more about slope, ownership, and product instinct than checking every box.

### Strong candidates usually have several of these

* Experience building and shipping full stack products in a startup or high ownership environment

* Strong backend engineering fundamentals and comfort designing production systems

* Ability to move fluidly between frontend, backend, infrastructure, and product decisions

* Good taste around product and UX, especially for technical products used by non technical users

* Comfort working with LLMs, agents, orchestration systems, or automation tooling

* Strong debugging instincts and willingness to get into ugly edge cases

* Ability to write clean, pragmatic code without overengineering

* High agency and low ego

### Bonus points

* Experience with workflow systems, integrations, browser automation, or API heavy products

* Experience building AI powered products in production

* Familiarity with operations workflows in sales, marketing, recruiting, support, or finance

* Experience at an early stage startup or as a founder

## What success looks like

In your first few months, you’ll be expected to ship meaningful product improvements, strengthen core technical systems, and become a key thought partner on both product and company direction.

This role is for someone who wants to help build the machine, not just work inside it.
