Northrop Grumman’s Defense Systems sector is currently seeking a Test Engineer Level 1/2 with background in Computer Science/Electrical to support our growing business in our Rocket Center, West Virginia location.
This position will be located at on-site at our Rocket Center, WV location. No remote work is available for this position.

Engineer Test in Computer Science/Electrical
In the Test Engineer role, the winning candidate will ultimately review and verify static rocket motor test designs/methodologies, understand and maintain current deployed equipment as well as evaluate hardware health and obsolescence. You will monitor the area equipment for potential failure trends, investigating new and developing technologies while collaborating with management on its potential implementation. Safety is an uncompromised core value within our team and an appreciation for the products tested here is a must. The role includes both specialized code and general programing through DAS (Digital Acquisition System) software, excel macro/functions, MATLAB code and processing, and more as technologies evolve. Part of the role’s opportunities include performing electrical schematic reviews, implementing changes needed to maintain peak operational efficiency and reviewing area processes for improvement. Post test data review to understand and validate test execution is part of everyday experiences. An understanding of electronic circuits with special emphasis on Wheatstone bridge theory as it’s applied to calibration techniques is a preferred qualification. In our Testing Group, you will be able to exercise scientific methods as you evaluate tests, work with and understand equipment, advocate for and deploy software/hardware improvements, and collaborate with other Engineers. Basic Qualifications:
- Level 1: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Computer Science with 0-1 years of relevant experience.
- Level 2: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Computer Science with 2+ years of relevant experience or a master degree with 0-1 years of experience.
- Knowledge of test instrumentation/transducers (pressure, force, acceleration, position, temperature, strain etc)
- Basic understanding of a PID control system
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (WORD, ACCESS and EXCEL)
- Demonstrated organizational skills and project work
- Ability to collaborate with others in a team to accomplish a common goal
- Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite
Preferred Qualifications:
- Double Major in Engineering/CS with 0-1 years of relevant experience
- Gage operation/knowledge/experience to include theory and selection
- Instrumentation calibration knowledge (demonstrate Wheatstone Bridge theory/knowledge)
- Demonstrate ability to complete projects on time with minimal oversight
- Data Acquisition System operation experience
- General programming experience/skills
- EXCEL macro, ACCESS MatLab/LabView Database and VBA programming experience/programming skills
- Demonstrate a broad approach to problem solving (multidisciplinary)
Primary Level Salary Range: $59,900.00 - $89,900.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $72,100.00 - $108,100.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
