New ideas are all around us, but only a few will change the world. That’s our focus at JPL. We ask the biggest questions, then search the universe for answers—literally. We build upon ideas that have guided generations, then share our discoveries to inspire generations to come. Your mission—your opportunity—is to seek out the answers that bring us one step closer. If you’re driven to discover, create, and inspire something that lasts a lifetime and beyond, you’re ready for JPL.

Located in Pasadena, California, JPL has a campus-like environment situated on 177 acres in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains and offers a work environment unlike any other: we inspire passion, foster innovation, build collaboration, and reward excellence.

As a full-time on-site employee, you will gather data, make observations, and draft written findings during moderately complex safety investigations, and participate in safety briefings and safety walk-throughs under the guidance of senior engineers.

You will build foundational knowledge across key safety disciplines, including general and facility safety, industrial hygiene, health physics, electrical safety, fire/life safety, and off-site field safety. You will assist with Facility and Laboratory Assessments of Safety Hazards/Job Hazard Analysis (FLASH/JHA) activities and contribute input as necessary to safety planning exercises. Cross-training in additional safety domains and flexibility to support emerging needs across the Laboratory are essential.

  • Basic working knowledge of workplace injury investigation, root cause analysis, hazard identification, and development of corrective actions
  • Familiarity with industrial hygiene, hazardous materials management, health physics, and fire/life safety principles
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite

Desired Skills

  • Progress toward or attainment of a professional safety certification (e.g., ASP, CSP, or CIH)
  • Experience or coursework in the development of online training
  • Experience or coursework in the development of online websites and tools using Microsoft SharePoint
  • Possess effective written and verbal communication skills, strong initiative, sound judgment, and consistent follow-through on assignments
