Senior Software Engineer - C++ Flight Software (m/f/d)

Job Description

Mission Brief

We are looking for a highly experienced software engineer to strengthen and shape our flight software capability. You will work on challenging aspects of launch vehicle software, including flight logic, mission sequencing, simulation environments and vehicle control software, while raising engineering standards through expertise, judgement and execution. 


Your Role in Our Space Mission: 

  • Lead or make major contributions to the design and implementation of complex flight software systems. 
  • Make pragmatic architectural decisions that balance correctness, maintainability, performance and long-term platform evolution. 
  • Help improve engineering standards, development practices and technical direction in areas of strong expertise. 
  • Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews and day-to-day technical collaboration. 
  • Design and implement vehicle flight modes, mission sequencing and autonomy logic. 
  • Develop and improve simulation environments used for software development and validation. 
  • Write high-quality C++ and develop supporting tools and automation using Python and MATLAB. 
  • Investigate complex or difficult-to-reproduce issues through disciplined, data-driven root-cause analysis. 

Qualification Checklist

  • Strong software engineering ability demonstrated through delivery of complex technical systems. 
  • Deep practical experience with C++ and software architecture. 
  • Strong understanding of software design, testing, debugging and maintainability. 
  • Ability to understand and improve large or complex codebases. 
  • Ability to raise the engineering standard of a team - through review culture, knowledge sharing and making technical reasoning visible to others. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Good engineering judgement and ability to make trade-offs explicit. 
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple technical disciplines. 
  • Disciplined, detail-oriented mindset with a strong commitment to software quality and root-cause problem solving. 

Bonus Skills

  • Experience in aerospace, space systems, robotics, autonomous systems, simulation, modelling, control systems, scientific computing, safety-critical software, embedded/real-time systems or distributed software. 
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, Linux, Git, CI/CD, SIL or HIL environments.
