Job Summary:
The Senior Spacecraft Avionics Security Engineer is the technical authority for all space vehicle and avionics product‑level security of Millennium’s space systems. You will design, implement, and sustain cryptographic subsystems, red/black separation, and end‑to‑end security architectures that protect hardware, software, data, and communications throughout the entire vehicle lifecycle and drive security requirements, processes, and verification at the product and mission level.
This position's internal job code is EE Sys Design Engineer. Our team is currently hiring for Levels 4-5.
Position Responsibilities:
Mission and Product‑Level Security Management
Define vehicle‑wide security architecture, select and integrate space‑qualified crypto devices, implement secure boot, key storage, and red/black isolation
Develop and maintain system security requirements, verification plans, and certification artifacts (DoD RMF, customer security clauses)
Develop threat assessment models and tailored approaches to counter them
Support product‑level security requirements definition, implementation, verification, and validation across the full lifecycle
Work with software, hardware, and systems engineering teams to develop new processes and procedures for enhanced cybersecurity implementations at both the product and system level
Networking Systems Engineering
Lead design, requirements management, and integration of space‑vehicle and constellation‑level networks (on‑board LANs, inter‑satellite mesh, space‑to‑ground links)
Define and maintain CONOPS, ICDs, and requirements for routing, virtualization, VPN tunneling, VLAN segmentation, and QoS across heterogeneous RF/optical links.
Apply enterprise networking principles (WAN/LAN/WLAN, IPv6, MPLS, IPsec) to distributed space systems while preserving red/black separation
Direct integration and verification activities that validate networking implementations
Stakeholder & Business Development Support
Lead customer interactions on product and system level cybersecurity for space systems
Develop presentation content and brief customers on Millennium product security approaches
Assist the business‑development team in crafting compliant proposals that meet customer cybersecurity and networking requirements
Supplier & Government Coordination
Define security and networking requirements for component/subsystem suppliers; review supplier deliverables; liaise with government agencies, customers, and industry groups to influence standards and risk‑acceptance processes
Other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus in Electrical, Mechanical or Aeronautical), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
5+ years experience working spacecraft/product security
Technical understanding of SV avionics architectures
Technical understanding of SV flight software architectures to include embedded Linux
Technical understanding of product cybersecurity features to include root of trust, secure boot, etc.
Familiarity with DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF)
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. A final U.S. Security Clearance Post-Start is required
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Experience working with cryptography and Anti-Tamper design knowledge
Experience working with TEMPEST designs
Methodical design, testing, and troubleshooting capabilities
Must be versatile and able to perform and manage multiple tasks concurrently
Outstanding communication and presentation skills
Experience with DoD RMF controls implementation
10+ years experience working spacecraft/product security
TS/SCI clearance

Summary pay range:
Level 4: $146,200 - $215,000
Level 5: $176,800 - $230,000
