This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

Blue Origin is seeking experienced Technicians to join our hypergol test stand operations team in Van Horn, TX. As a Technician, you will be a skilled member of our emergency response and test operations team, contributing to the development, construction, operation, and maintenance of liquid rocket engine test systems using hypergolic propellants.


You will demonstrate operational excellence in test stand procedure execution, work independently on complex tasks, and help train less experienced team members. This role requires strong technical skills, sound judgment, and unwavering commitment to safety.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to test facility construction, operation, and maintenance

  • Execute test stand procedures with high reliability and minimal supervision

  • Perform test article integration and system checkouts

  • Fabricate (tube bending) and route pressurization and propellant tubing for hypergolic systems

  • Assist with installation and checkout of wire harnesses and instrumentation

  • Review, edit, and follow test procedures and operate test consoles

  • Safely work with hypergolic propellants and high-pressure fluid systems

  • Troubleshoot instrumentation, valves, leaks, and other system components

  • Work with peers and engineers to design concepts/improvements and support test development

  • Plan and communicate assembly steps for complex mechanical installations

  • Provide input and feedback on Ground Support Equipment and test article designs

  • Read and interpret drawings, schematics, and P&IDs

  • Operate forklifts and equipment to work at elevated heights

  • Demonstrate and reinforce 5S and FOD control procedures

  • Help train and mentor Technician 1 and 2 level team members

  • Serve as member of HAZMAT emergency response and rescue team

  • Perform work while wearing SCBA and other required PPE

  • Successfully complete annual medical physical and physical ability/fitness assessment

  • Perform physically demanding emergency response tasks including lifting up to 200 pounds

  • Subject to random drug testing


Qualifications

  • Experience in rocket or jet engine testing, rocket engine test facility support, or similar field (0-3 years Level I Technician, 3+ years Level II Technician, 5+ years Level III Technician, 8+ years Sr Level Technician) 

  • Demonstrated proficiency in test operations and facility systems

  • Strong troubleshooting skills for fluid systems, pneumatics, and instrumentation

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision on complex tasks

  • Ability to safely operate standard mechanical hand tools and shop fabrication equipment

  • Experience with pneumatic and propellant systems

  • Experience operating forklifts and equipment to work at elevated heights

  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, and P&IDs

  • Good communication and teamwork skills

  • Ability to make quick, sound decisions in emergency situations while maintaining composure under stress

  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.; work in adverse weather; climb stairs and ladders; work at elevated heights

  • Ability to pass pre-employment medical physical and physical ability/fitness assessment

  • Ability to obtain Hazardous Materials Technician certification within 3 months of hire

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted refugee/asylum


Desired

  • 7+ years' experience in propulsion facility/system or launch vehicle operation, integration, or maintenance

  • Working knowledge of hypergolic propellants including NTO, MMH, hydrazine

  • Familiar with tube fabrication and pressurized system safety

  • Experience with LOTO procedures

  • Experience operating or working near heavy lifting equipment around flight-critical hardware

  • 3+ years emergency response experience (fire, HAZMAT, industrial)

  • Demonstrated proficiency with SCBA and SAR systems

  • Completion of 40-hour HAZWOPER training

  • Current Hazardous Materials Technician certification

  • Completion of FEMA/NIMS courses: IS-700, IS-800, ICS-100, ICS-200


Special Mentions

  • Schedule is 8 days on, 6 days off rotations with 10 hrs per day

  • Interviews will include a technical assessment

Being at the heart of Blue Origin operations, the West Texas Site in Van Horn, TX offers eligible employee’s additional attractive financial incentives to supplement their competitive base earnings, including a living allowance and relocation assistance.  Eligibility for these additional benefits is based on the employee’s ability to permanently relocate to Van Horn, TX, or travel to Van Horn from another Blue location a minimum of 50% of the time.

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
