This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As an Avionics Technician at Blue Origin, you will provide tactical and technical support to engineering, production, and manufacturing teams by fabricating, testing, repairing, and installing avionic equipment for both flight and non-flight systems. You will work from schematics, diagrams, and detailed written instructions to assemble, validate, troubleshoot, and upgrade avionics components such as wire harnesses, sensors, and flight control devices. Your responsibilities span the entire lifecycle of avionics equipment, ensuring every system meets the highest standards of safety and mission readiness across both prototype and operational hardware. 

 

Position Specific Details: 

  • Shifts: A | Mon-Fri (6am-2:30pm), B | Mon-Fri (2pm-10:30pm),C | Fri-Sun (6am-6:30pm),D | Fri-Sun (6pm - 6:30am) 

  • Location: Space Coast, FL 

  • Relocation: Available 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Fabricate, assemble, and install avionic equipment—including wire harnesses, sensors, avionics boxes, and instrumentation—for both flight and non-flight systems. 

  • Perform functional testing, validation, and operational checkout of avionics equipment using test apparatus such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, and specialized diagnostic tools. 

  • Diagnose, repair, and modify avionic hardware as required, using schematics, diagrams, and detailed work instructions. 

  • Operate precision calibrated tools (e.g., torque wrenches, micrometers) to ensure quality and safety standards are met. 

  • Mate/demate harnesses, route cables, perform soldering, crimping, connector rework, and sensor installations to aerospace standards. 

  • Support troubleshooting and maintenance activities proactively during production and as part of continuous improvement efforts. 

  • Maintain a clean, organized workspace and apply 5S principles for safety and efficiency. 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support projects and share technical expertise. 

  • Accurately document work completed and provide timely feedback to engineering and quality teams. 

 

Team Focus & Domain Expertise 

As a member of the avionics team, you will work at the cutting edge of spaceflight technology, directly impacting the performance and reliability of Blue Origin’s launch vehicles. Your expertise ensures the quality and readiness of hardware used in both operational missions and ground/test environments. You will join a dynamic, multidisciplinary team dedicated to innovation, excellence, and the safe, repeatable advancement of human spaceflight. 

 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Experience Levels with aerospace manufacturing, integration, or another related field. (0-3 years Level I Technician, 3+ Level II Technician, 5+ Level III Technician, 8+ Sr Level Technician) 

  • Ability to accurately interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, and technical documentation. 

  • Experience with precision calibration tools including torque wrenches, micrometers, and calipers. 

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and work at heights (work stands, ladders, lifts) and/or in confined spaces. 

  • Expertise with adhesives, sealants, and fasteners. 

  • Proficiency in basic computer applications, including Windows and Microsoft Office suite. 

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.   

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Certified in IPC/WHMA-A-620 Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies, J-STD-001 Solder (including Space Addendum), NASA-STD-8739.4. 

  • Experience with spaceflight hardware assembly, integration, and test. 

  • Skilled in soldering, crimping, connector rework, and basic harness fabrication and repair. 

  • Ability to test and install sensors (e.g., accelerometers, thermocouples, pressure sensors, strain gages, microphones, RTDs, and cameras). 

  • Experience in cable routing, mating/demating harnesses, part marking, and safety cabling. 

  • Use of digital multimeter for continuity, resistance, and voltage readings. 

  • Confidence in reading and interpreting 2D drawings, basic measurement techniques (rulers/tapes), and using hand tools. 

  • Meticulous attention to detail and adherence to quality standards. 

  • Demonstrated success in “hands-on” roles, with a continuous improvement mindset and ability to adapt in fast-paced, evolving environments. 

  • Previous experience supporting both flight and non-flight/ground support systems.

  • Required for Certain Job Profiles: Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. and/or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by ground in any vehicle on a public road while in commerce, may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification (obtained before onboarding), Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing (CDL drivers only), vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable) and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training.

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
