This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As part of a hardworking team of engineers on the Platform Engineering Team, you will work with other software development engineers and discipline teams to develop the next generation platform for systems and software development teams across our Lunar programs. The platform will directly impact the missions planned. Software is the heart of space vehicle development, so your ability to collaborate and communicate effectively across the business unit will be an important aspect of this role. You will also have long term vision and strategy for the products to truly sustain lunar missions.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Lead full-stack web application architecture and development efforts with minimal oversight, driving projects from inception to delivery.
- Train, guide, and mentor junior and mid-level engineers on full-stack development best practices and professional growth.
- Set direction and goals for the team regarding platform architecture and influence the feature roadmap.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively across the Lunar Permanence business unit, working with diverse discipline teams to understand needs and deliver impactful solutions.
- Collect and analyze customer data to understand and troubleshoot application usage and performance.
- Deeply understand the safety-critical software development process and find ways to create and apply tooling to make the process more effective and efficient.
Minimum Qualifications:
- B.S. or higher degree in computer science, computer engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
- 12 years of professional experience minimum.
- Experience in developing and architecting full-stack applications.
- Experience improving application stability through monitoring, analysis, thoughtful code reviews, and detailed feedback.
- Experience in database design (SQL, NoSQL, InfluxDB).
- Experience with modern frontend frameworks (React, Next.js, or similar).
- Experience constructing RESTful APIs (Python, NodeJS, or Go).
- Experience with Data Engineering pipelines.
- Experience with unit testing and test-driven development.
- Experience with Linux, Docker, Continuous Integration and Delivery.
- Experience using configuration as code tools to manage cloud resources and physical workstations (e.g., Ansible, Vagrant, Terraform, Kubernetes, etc.).
- Ability to work independently and lead teams. Proven understanding of source control tools and concepts such as git workflows, versioning, and branching.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and business units.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with compiled and systems-level languages including C/C++, Rust, and/or frontend libraries such as ThreeJS.
- Experience with application performance monitoring and observability technologies (Datadog, ELK stack, Prometheus, Grafana).
- Experience with Agile methodologies, including active participation in sprint planning, execution, and retrospectives, with a proven track record of following good engineering practices for merge requests (MRs), code reviews, and adherence to Code Development Standards.
- Aerospace industry experience with safety-critical software development and/or tools qualification activities, including conformance to standards such as NPR 7150.2D, DO-178C, DO-278, DO-330, or equivalent safety-critical software development standards.
Base Pay Range for:
WA applicants is $197,529.00 - $276,539.55Other site ranges may differ
