Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed. At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!
This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.
About the Role
This role is part of Blue Origin Operations — which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance — supporting Manufacturing and Supply Chain across all Blue Origin facilities. You will sit on the software team within Operations that builds tools in direct support of our Manufacturing Engineers.
We are returning humankind to the Moon, and Blue Origin's Manufacturing Engineers build the hardware that gets us there. On our small AI Solutions team, you will build the full-stack applications and AI-powered tools that put new capabilities in the hands of a 100+ person Manufacturing Engineering organization — so those engineers can spend more time on the engineering they trained for and less on tedious, repetitive work. You'll work across the stack: front-end interfaces MEs use every day, the services and data pipelines behind them, and LLM-driven features that process manufacturing and work-order data at scale. This is a software engineering role at its core — the best engineers here also make a point of understanding the people they build for, so you'll spend time on the floor with Manufacturing Engineers to learn the work before building for it.
Special Mentions
- Relocation provided
- Interviews will include a technical assessment
- Location: Renton, WA (fully onsite co-located with the Manufacturing Engineering organization)
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain full-stack web applications that Manufacturing Engineers use — from the front-end interface through the backend services and data pipelines behind it.
- Improve, maintain, and modernize existing applications — not just greenfield work — including hardening, cleanup, and reducing technical debt in tools already in use.
- Build AI/LLM-powered features that process manufacturing and work-order data at scale, and assist with tasks like work-order authoring — applying appropriate human-in-the-loop safeguards.
- Deploy and operate the team's services on our cloud infrastructure (AWS, Kubernetes), including CI/CD, monitoring, and day-to-day reliability.
- Spend time with Manufacturing Engineers to learn how their work actually flows, and turn messy real-world workflows into tools they'll adopt and rely on.
- Use data to validate that what you ship is actually helping the engineers who use it, and to inform what the team builds next.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, with demonstrated ownership of production software
- Strong front-end engineering skills: React, TypeScript, component libraries, and state management
- Solid backend and API development in Python and/or a comparable language (REST and/or GraphQL), including designing and working with databases for both structured and unstructured data (e.g., relational/SQL and document or search stores)
- Comfortable integrating LLMs into products — building AI-powered features and using LLMs as a development tool
- Hands-on experience deploying and running applications on AWS and containerized infrastructure (Kubernetes or similar)
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration; able to work directly with non-technical users to turn their needs into working software
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with internal component libraries or design systems (e.g., BlueKit) and data/reporting tools (e.g., Redash)
- Prior experience building software in, or in direct support of, a manufacturing, aerospace, hardware production, or operations environment
- Exposure to how a Manufacturing Engineer's work flows (work-order authoring, build support, non-conformance resolution, BOM management) — or a demonstrated habit of learning a domain deeply before building for it
- Experience building internal tools that other engineers or operators actually adopted
- Familiarity with manufacturing execution systems (MES), work-order/work-instruction authoring systems, or PLM
- Experience with LLM/RAG pipelines or agentic AI workflows in production
- Experience modeling connected domains with a graph or knowledge-graph database (e.g., Neo4j, Amazon Neptune), and judgment for when a graph fits better than
