At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

Blue Origin is pioneering the future of space-based communications with TeraWave, a revolutionary satellite communications network designed to deliver symmetrical data speeds of up to 6 Tbps anywhere on Earth. This multi-orbit constellation will consist of optically interconnected satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO) and medium Earth orbit (MEO), providing enterprise-grade connectivity for critical operations worldwide.

About This Role

As a Senior Software Development Engineer focused on DevOps and Network Software Infrastructure for TeraWave, you design and build the engineering systems that enable development, integration, validation, deployment, and operation of a next generation global satellite communications network. You develop the platforms, automation, and deployment frameworks used by networking, SDN, MAC, ground infrastructure, and platform software teams. This includes CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, automated test environments, network and constellation simulation infrastructure, software artifact management, deployment orchestration, observability, and operational tooling. This role builds the foundation that allows hundreds of engineers to safely deliver software into a large scale, geographically distributed network.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, build, and operate CI/CD infrastructure supporting networking, SDN, MAC, platform, and ground software teams.
  • Develop automated build, test, packaging, release, and deployment pipelines for globally distributed PoPs, gateways, and edge systems.
  • Build infrastructure as code and configuration management frameworks for reproducible deployment across cloud, data center, and lab environments.
  • Develop integration and test environments incorporating network emulation, topology simulation, traffic generation, and failure injection testing.
  • Design artifact, versioning, and release management systems providing traceability from source code through production deployment and rollback.
  • Build observability tooling for metrics, logs, traces, network telemetry, deployment health, alerting, and automated diagnostics.
  • Partner with SDN, ground networking, platform, security, and systems engineering teams to define deployment and validation requirements.
  • Improve engineering velocity and production reliability through automation, developer tooling, and standardized deployment patterns.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5 or more years of software engineering, DevOps, platform, infrastructure, or site reliability experience.
  • Software development experience in one or more languages such as Python, Go, Rust, or Java.
  • Experience building and operating production CI/CD systems such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or Argo CD.
  • Experience with infrastructure automation using Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, Helm, or equivalent configuration management systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7 or more years building software infrastructure for large scale distributed, telecommunications, or mission critical systems.
  • Experience supporting Linux based distributed systems and diagnosing complex failures across applications, networks, and infrastructure.
  • Understanding of IP networking, routing protocols, IP/MPLS, Segment Routing, software defined networking, and network automation.
  • Experience deploying software across geographically distributed fleets requiring staged deployment, configuration consistency, and rollback.
  • Experience with GitOps, immutable infrastructure, software supply chain security, secrets management, and deployment controls.
  • Experience building network test infrastructure using traffic generators, virtual topologies, emulators, simulators, or digital twins.
