This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As part of a hardworking team of spacecraft development engineers, you will contribute to the systems engineering activities for the Guidance Navigation and Control (GN&C) subsystem and its components. Your responsibilities will include derivation and development of subsystem requirements, performing analyses and trade studies to validate requirements, and maintaining subsystem specification, budgets, and performance metrics. You will collaborate with the vehicle systems engineering, propulsion, structures, and dynamics teams to ensure design coordination to meet the vehicle performance deliverables. You will need to be able to communicate technical information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop GN&C requirements with flow downs to component levels and companion verification methods. Support system and subsystem analyses needed to develop requirements 

  • Manage technical budgets and performance metrics 

  • Collaborate with other subsystems and spacecraft systems engineers to define subsystem boundaries and interfaces 

  • Perform analyses, simulations, and tests (including component and hardware-in-the-loop) to verify component and subsystem specifications and requirements 

  • Develop verification and validation plans to ensure software and hardware components, and the integrated subsystem will perform as specified to meet system and subsystem requirements 

  • Support the definition, development, and execution of simulations and tools necessary for verification of subsystem functionalities. 

  • Support providing updates to schedule, resources, cost, and risks 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical engineering or related subject areas 

  • Experience in full development lifecycle of GN&C subsystem on at least one aerospace program 

  • Experience in the development and analysis of GN&C algorithms 

  • Demonstrated experience in development and testing of navigation sensors and control actuators 

  • Demonstrated experience in implementation and testing of GN&C software and hardware 

  • Solid system engineering and configuration management skills 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

  • Highly organized and capable of planning and guiding complex technical work 

  • Ability to perform in a dynamic, fast-paced, and driven work environment 

  • Ability to earn trust and maintain positive and professional relationships

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical engineering or related subject areas 

  • 10 or more years of design experience 

  • Demonstrated experience leading full development lifecycle of GN&C subsystem in at least one aerospace program 

  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge in the development of planetary spacecraft GN&C systems 

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with development of descent and landing software for planetary missions 

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Rendezvous and Proximity Operations and Docking 

 

 


 

Base Pay Range for:

CO applicants is $144,179.00 - $201,849.90 WA applicants is $156,802.00 - $219,522.45

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
