This role supports the dimensional verification of a family of advanced, high-precision hardware and tooling built in-house at Blue Origin. These are not commodity parts inspected against loose tolerances. They are complex, geometrically demanding components whose features must be verified to micron-class accuracy before they are cleared to move downstream. As a CMM Technician, you are the person who confirms the hardware is what the drawing says it is, and your measurement is the record everyone downstream trusts.

As a Technician III you are the person who makes that real. You will program and operate coordinate measuring machines, develop measurement strategies for new part families, and generate the inspection data that clears hardware for use. When a measurement doesn't close, hardware stops moving, and your analysis is the first line of response.

This is a technician seat on a small team that owns its measurement process end to end. You will work shoulder to shoulder with the design and manufacturing engineers who defined the features you are inspecting, and your feedback changes the drawings and the fixtures. The hardware is in production today and the next-generation configuration is in active design, so you will inspect fielded hardware and stand up measurement routines for new hardware in the same week.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Program, operate, and maintain coordinate measuring machines (contact and non-contact) to inspect complex, multi-feature precision components, working from engineering drawings, inspection plans, and work orders
• Develop and validate CMM measurement routines for new part families, including alignment strategy, datum structure, probe selection, sampling density, and reporting format
• Establish part alignments and datum reference frames per GD&T callouts, and verify that the measurement strategy correctly represents design intent
• Design, build, and verify inspection fixtures and part-holding methods that repeatably locate hardware without inducing distortion
• Execute dimensional inspection campaigns and iterate measure-analyze-remeasure passes until results are repeatable and defensible
• Perform first-article inspection (FAI/AS9102), in-process inspection, and final acceptance inspection, and generate the associated inspection reports
• Interpret and apply GD&T, including position, profile, runout, flatness, and datum reference frames, and correctly report feature conformance
• Analyze measurement results, identify out-of-tolerance conditions, and distinguish true part nonconformance from measurement or setup error
• Calibrate, qualify, and verify probes, styli, and reference artifacts, and confirm machine health before critical measurements
• Document all work in the quality and work-order systems, including as-measured results, alignments used, artifacts and probes qualified, and anomalies observed, to the standard that lets an engineer reconstruct what happened months later
• Write and red-line inspection, programming, and measurement procedures based on what actually works on the floor
• Support root-cause investigations by capturing measurement data, preserving nonconforming hardware, and contributing direct observation to the analysis
• Contribute to gauge R&R and measurement-system-analysis studies to prove out measurement capability
• Follow safety, lockout/tagout, and PPE requirements without exception, and stop work when conditions are unsafe
• Train and mentor junior inspectors and technicians, and serve as a technical resource for CMM programming and metrology methods

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in dimensional inspection, CMM operation and programming, precision metrology, quality inspection, or equivalent military technical experience
• Demonstrated ability to work from engineering drawings, inspection plans, and written procedures with minimal supervision
• Proficiency programming and operating coordinate measuring machines (e.g., PC-DMIS, Calypso, MODUS, or comparable)
• Proficiency with precision measurement tools, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, gauge blocks, and indicators, and the judgment to know when a measurement is trustworthy
• Ability to read and interpret GD&T callouts and apply them correctly in measurement routines
• Experience establishing part alignments and datum reference frames on a CMM
• Demonstrated attention to documentation, recording measurement results accurately and completely in a quality or work-order system
• Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate degree, technical/trade school certificate, or completed apprenticeship in metrology, quality, mechanical, or a related discipline
• Experience programming CMMs offline from CAD models
• Experience with non-contact and multi-sensor measurement (laser scanning, structured light, optical, or CT)
• Experience with portable metrology equipment (optical trackers, laser trackers, articulating arms, interferometry)
• Experience performing First Article Inspection to AS9102 in a regulated manufacturing environment
• Familiarity with GD&T per ASME Y14.5
• Experience conducting gauge R&R and measurement system analysis (MSA) studies
• Experience with statistical process control (SPC) and data analysis of dimensional results
• Experience inspecting machined, additively manufactured, or complex freeform hardware
• Certified or certifiable in forklift operation, overhead crane, and rigging
• Lockout/tagout or comparable safety training
• Experience using an ERP, MES, or QMS work-order system to record inspection work
• Experience training or leading other inspectors or technicians

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs unassisted, and to participate in team lifts of heavier components
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and work in awkward positions for extended periods
• Ability to load, position, and fixture parts onto CMM tables, including reaching into enclosed part geometries
• Ability to work with arms overhead and to reach across large measurement envelopes
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment
• Comfortable working in an industrial manufacturing and inspection environment with associated noise, temperature variation, and machinery hazards
