About Forge:

Forge builds automated CNC factories that enable mechanical engineers to go from CAD to physical part 2x faster than anyone else. We take engineer's ideas and turn them into finished prototypes within 4 days or less. We’ve been running factories for 2 years and we have shipped thousands of parts to engineers all over North America, to some of the biggest tech companies in the world.

We're looking for people who are interested in manufacturing and speeding up hardware development, and who want to apply their technical skills to help us build more leverage and tools to make our shop even more efficient.

What we are building: 

We are building the most efficient machine shop in the world, and powering that is a wide and versatile software stack that we develop almost completely in house. In order to serve the caliber of customers that we have at the speed we do, we’ve built some cool software:

• A web system to interact with the outside world and to manage as much of our internal operations as possible through clean “live-updating” UI when humans are needed and through agentic workflows when they are not.
• Our own cloud based automated CAM/DFM software that makes intelligent decisions and stream lines our quoting and manufacturing process. This includes everything from the feature extraction, process planning, all the way to tool path and gcode generation.
• Embedded devices attached to each CNC machine we use to augment the control of the machine and to stream telemetry up to our web app. We also use these embedded devices for custom screens to display to guide our operators through a manufacturing process.

Customers log onto our website, upload STEP files to receive an instant quote, and then pay online. We then have four days to ship those parts out, so all the other software we write is about making it possible to do that. Give it a try at www.forgejobshop.com!

About the Role:

We are looking for a strong technical builder who want to help us solve all the hardest problems in manufacturing. Here are some of the big ones facing us today that we’re working on:

1. Shop Brain Agents: community of agents that monitor different aspects of the shop at different timescales to either help us catch problems before they come up, inform / audit our scheduling, and to track long term trends about the process.
2. Improving our the CAM system within our site to flush out the “manual” features and get to parity with Fusion360
3. Given us finer grain control and insight into our process, zooming in from order, to part, to unit, and integrating that with our “live-sync” mechanism so no one is operating on stale data.
4. Improving the structure, modularity, and robustness of our code base with the goal of making it “fool-proof” for our mechanical engineers and even operators to vibe code their own features and webpages.
5. Good old fashion UX and UI :) the site can always look and feel better, if you’re really good at that we want you too!

In this role you will work directly on a factory floor with a fast moving and inter-disciplinary team. There are no boundaries between any of our software systems to get the most out of integration and to get all our minds solving all the problems, and you will be expected to walk the floor and see your work being used and how it can be improved :)

What we want to see

• Have built your own projects or worked on systems that are used by people
• Strong programming skill, experience with various technologies and patterns
• Ability to work with agentic coding systems WITHOUT a strong reliance on them
• Knowledge of software systems and how to put them together, not just how to code
• Self-motivated, with desire and ability to solve business problems without being given solutions
• Comfortability with using git and good versioning control practices
