Staff Business Operations Project Manager

Job Description

Boston Dynamics builds industry-leading mobile robots that transform how people work. As the business scales, our Business Operations team is building the operating infrastructure needed to support that growth. The Business Operations Project Manager will play a critical role in turning business priorities into coordinated execution across the company.

The Project Manager leads execution of cross-functional projects across Business Operations, partnering with functions including GTM, Manufacturing, IT, Finance, Service, and Supply Chain. This role manages projects that vary widely in size, scope, and complexity, including business process improvement, operational initiatives, technology implementations, and other cross-functional business programs.

The Project Manager is responsible for translating business objectives into clear delivery plans, coordinating cross-functional teams, managing risk and dependencies, and driving initiatives through completion and adoption. The role partners closely with Business Process Analysts and functional stakeholders and applies practical judgment to determine the appropriate level of structure, governance, and project management rigor for each initiative.

The Project Manager maintains focus on business outcomes while adapting project management practices to the needs of each project, team, and business environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project & Delivery Leadership

    • Lead cross-functional projects from initiation through completion, leveraging BizOps PMO standards, templates, and frameworks to drive consistent and effective delivery.

    • Translate business objectives into clear project plans, milestones, owners, and deliverables.

    • Manage scope, schedule, budget, resources, dependencies, risks, and deliverables.

    • Establish the appropriate project structure, governance, and communication cadence for each initiative.

    • Track commitments, decisions, and action items, and ensure follow-through.

    • Identify risks and issues early, develop mitigation strategies, and escalate quickly and clearly when needed.

    • Manage changes to scope, schedule, resources, and priorities as they arise.

    • Apply practical judgment to determine the appropriate level of structure, governance, and project management rigor for each initiative.

    • Maintain focus on intended business outcomes by balancing rigor with pragmatism.

  • Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Partnership

    • Build strong working relationships across functions, partnering with functional leaders, subject-matter experts, and project teams to align priorities and drive execution.

    • Influence outcomes and drive accountability without direct authority.

    • Facilitate effective meetings that produce clear decisions, actions, and accountability.

    • Communicate proactively and tailor communication style to the audience, from working teams to senior stakeholders.

    • Partner with Business Process Analysts, providing delivery perspective on sequencing, dependencies, timing, resources, and risk while BPAs own business requirements and solution fit.

    • Coordinate implementation and execution activities to keep BPAs and stakeholders aligned throughout delivery.

  • Continuous Improvement

    • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, automate, or improve processes within the Business Operations organization.

    • Apply lessons learned to future projects and help teams build more scalable ways of working.

    • Support efforts to establish repeatable processes and operating mechanisms across Business Operations.

  • Technology, Vendor & Implementation Support

    • Partner with IT PMO for business-facing IT projects and help prioritize work requiring IT support.

    • Support vendor and tool evaluations, including buy-vs-build decisions.

    • Support ERP, MRP, MES, or other business system implementations and adoption efforts.

    • Coordinate work between technical and business teams.

Qualifications:

  • Experience leading cross-functional projects, ideally in a scaling or fast-growing environment.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, operations, engineering, or a related field.

  • PMP, CAPM, or equivalent project management certification is highly desired.

  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies including Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid delivery models.

  • Ability to manage multiple high-priority initiatives simultaneously while adapting to changing business priorities.

  • Ability to manage stakeholders at all levels, including executive leadership, without direct authority.

  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills, with the ability to bring structure to complex or unfamiliar work.

  • Ability to quickly learn new business processes, functions, and subject matter and translate that understanding into effective project execution.

  • Working knowledge of the Atlassian suite (Confluence, Jira) and Arena is a plus.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and reliability in following through on commitments.

  • Comfortable working with both business and technical stakeholders.

  • Experience with one or more of the following is a plus:

    • Business transformation or process improvement.

    • Manufacturing or operations projects.

    • ERP/MRP/MES implementations.

    • Finance or Lead-to-Cash processes.

    • Vendor/supplier vetting and management.

    • Business or process analysis.

    • NPI or other cross-functional project management.
