Job Description
About Andromeda
Andromeda is building autonomous surgical robots designed to help surgeons perform procedures more safely, consistently, and efficiently. Our engineers work across robotics, software, hardware, machine learning, and clinical operations to bring robotic systems from concept to real-world deployment. We’re looking for people who enjoy solving difficult problems, taking ownership, and working closely with a small, highly collaborative team.
The Role
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help build the software systems that power our robotic platform. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing, building, testing, and deploying production software. You will work closely with robotics, controls, hardware, and machine learning engineers to develop systems that are reliable, maintainable, and scalable. This is not a role focused on maintaining legacy systems or implementing isolated features. We are looking for engineers who can take ownership of complex problems, make sound engineering decisions, and drive projects from concept through deployment.
What You’ll Do
- Design and develop production software in C++ and Python.
- Architect and implement reliable software systems that support robotic applications.
- Build maintainable, modular, and extensible codebases.
- Develop testing and validation strategies to ensure software quality and reliability.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices.
- Debug and resolve complex issues across software, robotics, and hardware systems.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver new product capabilities.
- Take ownership of projects from initial design through deployment and long-term support.
What We’re Looking For
Software Engineering
- 5 to 7 years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong experience developing production software in C++ and/or Python.
- Ability to write maintainable, modular, and production-quality code.
- Experience designing software that can be extended and maintained by a team.
- Strong understanding of software architecture and system design principles.
- Experience writing tests and validating software behavior. For this role, testing and software quality are a must, not a nice-to-have.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
Systems Thinking & Ownership
- Ability to break down ambiguous problems into actionable solutions.
- Comfortable making engineering decisions with incomplete information.
- Strong ownership mindset and ability to independently drive projects forward.
- Ability to identify risks, tradeoffs, and missing requirements early.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment with evolving priorities.
Collaboration & Communication
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively across software, robotics, hardware, and product teams.
- Open to feedback and iterative development.
- Comfortable discussing technical decisions and tradeoffs with teammates.
Nice to Have
- Experience building software for robotics systems.
- Experience with Linux-based development environments.
- Experience with ROS or ROS2.
- Experience working with real-time or performance-critical systems.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure and distributed systems.
- Experience with embedded or hardware-adjacent software.
- Experience working in startup environments.
- Experience in robotics, autonomous vehicles, medical devices, aerospace, or other highly technical engineering environments.
